BLOOMFIELD MEETING TONIGHT TO LOOK FOR TRANSPORTATION IDEAS
The Bloomfield School Board voted recently to stop providing school bus service to students who live within one mile of the school campus. Bloomfield Superintendent Dr. Nicholas Theile says it’s a matter trying to save money. He explains that schools receive money from the state for transporting students who live farther than a mile from school. Students who live within a mile are considered ineligible for the funding. Theile says the district has picked up students within the mile radius in the past as a service to the community, but that the district is anticipating reduced transportation funding next year, and will not be able to anymore. The move is expected to save the district between $25,000 and $30,000.
Dr. Theile and the school board are looking for ideas for alternate transportation for those students who will no longer be able to ride the bus. The District is holding a public meeting tonight at 7 pm to gain input on the subject. The meeting will be held at the Bloomfield High School Library.
