STODDARD COUNTY FARMERS HAVE TILL FRIDAY TO APPLY FOR WATERSHED INITIATIVE PROJECT

Farmers in parts of Stoddard County may qualify to be included in two watershed conservation projects being financed by the USDA, but applications must be completed and turned in by Friday. The projects are designed to help crop producers implement conservation practices that target runoff from agriculture land. Missouri is set to receive $6 million during the federal fiscal year 2010 for projects in six of the state’s watersheds. The first Stoddard County project is in the east part of the county and is part of the Little River Basin. The second is part of the Lower St. Francis River Basin in the west part of the county. Both are part of the larger Mississippi River Basin. For more information about the Mississippi River Basin Healthy Watersheds Initiative, call (573) 624-5939, ext 3.
