Missouri does not require schools to teach sex education. But schools that opt to teach those classes must provide medically and factually accurate information.

The new sex education guidance is set to take effect August 28th. Schools with instruction on sex education then must teach students about sexual predators and how to be safe online.

A late court-ordered change to an early voting measure last year cost the state nearly $680,000 to reimburse counties for costs to reprint ballots.

Businesses and nonprofits run offices that issue vehicle and driver's licenses and collect a fee for each transaction. At issue is an agency policy to award such contracts in part based on how much of profits bidders pledge to give back to the state.

Lawmakers have criticized the policy as disadvantaging nonprofits that typically return profits to their community.

The competitive bidding process was put in place in 2009 to eliminate political patronage.

MISSOURI CHANGES INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR EATING DISORDERS

(AP) - Missouri is set to become the first state to spell out the type of eating disorder treatments that insurance companies must cover.

Governor Jay Nixon signed legislation this month to require insurers to cover eating disorders beyond the point of a person getting back to a certain weight.

According to the National Eating Disorders Association, it's the first bill in the nation to define such treatment.

Advocates say patients with eating disorders are kicked out of treatment prematurely, having gained weight but not having the underlying mental issues addressed.

Insurance companies who provide coverage for Missouri residents have resisted such a change, saying it could mean higher costs. But they struck a compromise with lawmakers on language to cover "medically necessary" treatments.

The law will take effect in August.

MOTORISTS WARNED TO STAY ALERT IN FLOODED AREAS

Missouri State Highway Patrol officials are warning motorists to stay alert when driving in flooded areas.

Colonel J. Bret Johnson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, says that a man died Tuesday after his car was swept away as he was attempting to cross a flooded roadway in Washington County.

You should never drive through fast-moving waters; even a small amount of fast-moving water can sweep a slow-moving vehicle off the roadway.

If your vehicle becomes stuck in rising water, get out quickly and move to higher ground.

The Patrol also asks boaters across the state to take extra precautions when boating in flooded areas. Large amounts of rainfall cause rivers and lakes to become swollen. Many times the right decision is to stay off the water.

ATTORNEY SAYS CARDINALS EXECUTIVES NOT BEHIND ASTROS HACKING CASE

(AP) - An attorney for the St. Louis Cardinals says executives of the team were not involved in the hacking of the Houston Astros' player personnel database.

The Cardinals hired the Dowd Bennett firm to handle an internal inquiry several months before this week's disclosure that the FBI is investigating whether the team hacked into the Astros computer system.

Jim Martin, an attorney for the firm, tells The Associated Press he is "100 percent confident" the case does not involve people like Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak and Chairman Bill DeWitt.
