POPLAR BLUFF MAN CHARGED FOR POSSESSING DRUGS AT JAIL  

Butler County authorities say an area man is facing a drug charge after he was found in possession of marijuana at the Butler County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 61 year old Elbert Knight, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody Wednesday after being detained on Union Pacific property near 2nd street. A railroad special agent checked Knight’s information and found he had an active warrant for distribution with a $100,000 bond.

The agent also found two syringes containing a clear liquid on Knight after conducting a pat down. After being taken to the sheriff’s department, Knight reportedly told a deputy that he did not have anything else on him that was illegal.

The deputy then conducted a search and found a green leafy substance that was identified as marijuana. Knight was charged with bringing marijuana into the jail facility and possession of marijuana.

 

PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY A VEHICLE NEAR THREE RIVERS COLLEGE A teenage pedestrian was reportedly struck by a vehicle Wednesday near Three Rivers College.

According to authorities the pedestrian walked in front of the vehicle on the campus loop near the Tinnin Center and was struck.

The pedestrian suffered minor injuries to her lower back area and later sought treatment at an area hospital. The driver told authorities that she was unable to see the pedestrian due to glare on the windshield.

 

RIVER RADIO LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE TO BE HELD TONIGHT Christmas time is here and that means it is also time for the annual River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade.

The parade will begin tonight at 7 pm and the parade route will run from Highway 142 at McDonald’s through downtown Poplar Bluff.

POPLAR BLUFF TEEN ARRESTED ON ROBBERY WARRANT A Poplar Bluff teen who was wanted on a robbery warrant has been taken into custody.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 18 year old Tyrelle Thompson was arrested Wednesday at an area residence.

Thompson was lodged at the Butler County Justice Center on a $50,000 dollar bond.

 

MICHIGAN MAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY ON SODOMY WARRANT A Michigan man was recently taken into custody in Stoddard County on a sodomy warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 29 year old Adam Sarantos, of Lakeview, Michigan was arrested on a warrant for 2nd degree statutory sodomy.

His bond was set at $25,000 and he has since bonded out.

 

WHEATLEY HISTORIC PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION TO HOST CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE The Wheatley Historic Preservation Association will be hosting a Christmas Open House this weekend at the Wheatley School Building in Poplar Bluff.

Visitors will be given a chance to tour the facility and experience some beautiful Christmas decorations. There will also be refreshments and door prizes.

The Open House will run from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday at the Wheatley School Building in Poplar Bluff.

 

ANNUAL ELKS HOOP SHOOT SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY Area children will be coming to the Poplar Bluff Senior High gym this weekend to participate in the Poplar Bluff Elks Hoop Shoot.

Registration for the event will begin at 9:30 am Saturday for boys and girls ages 8 to 13. Each participant will shoot a total of 25 free throws, with the highest scores in each age group advancing to the district level.

There is no charge to participate in the Hoop Shoot.

 

BENEFIT TO BE HELD FOR WOMAN WHO WAS RECENTLY IN A CAR ACCIDENT An event has been scheduled for this weekend to benefit a woman who was recently in a car accident.

The benefit for Sonja Goins/Hancock will be held at 9 pm Saturday at Bluff Burger and Brew in Poplar Bluff.

The event will feature a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and live music by the Brothers Walker.
