IDENTITY RELEASED OF BODY FOUND IN BURNED VEHICLE

Authorities have released the identity of a woman whose body was found last week inside a burnt vehicle.

According to authorities, woman was identified as Cynthia Canoy, of Scott City. Canoy’s remains were discovered in a Scott County cornfield.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION ONGOING IN CHARLESTON

Authorities in Charleston are investigating a shooting.

According to the Charleston Department of Public Safety, the shooting happened Tuesday night near Lincoln Park. Police are asking anyone who has information about the shooting to contact the Charleston DPS at 573-683-3737.

STEELE MAN FACING MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES

A Steele man is facing multiple drug related charges following his arrest Wednesday morning.

32 year old Joseph L. Green is reportedly facing charges of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine; possession of marijuana; possession of prescription medication, hydrocodone; and possession of drug paraphernalia, among other charges.

According to the Highway Patrol, Green was taken into custody at around 12:30 am Wednesday in Pemiscot County.

CAPE GIRARDEAU MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF METH

A Cape Girardeau man spent part of Wednesday in custody on drug charges.

According to the Highway Patrol, 49 year old Richard D. Ozment is facing charges of driving while suspended, possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine. Ozment was reportedly arrested at around 12:16 Wednesday morning in Cape Girardeau County.

DORENA HICKMAN FERRY TEMPORARILY CLOSED

The ferry that connects Missouri and Kentucky has been temporarily closed.

The Dorena-Hickman ferry has been closed for ramp repairs. A post on the Ferry’s Facebook page says that they are expecting a part for the repairs to be delivered late this afternoon.

An exact timetable for the ferry’s reopening was not given.

SEMO RECEIVES AWARD FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL DEVELOPMENT

Southeast Missouri State University has been approved for two federal awards for entrepreneurial development.

SEMO was chosen as one of the winners of the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s 2013 University Center Economic Development Program Competition and will receive almost $200,000.

SEMO has also been chosen to receive a $1 million loan to establish a revolving, low-interest fund for new and emerging businesses in southeast Missouri.

TIPS FOR PARENTS WHOSE KIDS WILL BE ALONE AFTER SCHOOL

With school starting today in Poplar Bluff, the Poplar Bluff Police Department has released some tips for parents to make sure their kids are safe when home alone after school.

Your child should know how to deal with situations that may arise while alone, such as someone coming to the door. They should know not to answer the door, and to not reveal that they are home alone. Also, be sure your child knows to lock the door while home alone.

Remember to make sure they know what to do in case of an emergency, such as a fire. Be clear on calling 911, and discuss what they need to do in different circumstances.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Stoddard County today for pavement repairs on Route M.

During the repairs, Route M will be reduced to one lane from 7 am to 4 pm. The work zone will be located between Highway 25 and Route PP.

ROUTE Y TO BE REDUCED TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route Y in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Highway 25 to County Road 317.

Work will take place today from 8 am to 4 pm.

ARKANSAS STATE POLICE TO GET NEW LOW PROFILE VEHICLES

The Arkansas State Police has deployed 24 new low-profile vehicles that are designed to blend in with ordinary traffic.

The agency showed off the vehicles at headquarters early Wednesday.

The new cares are equipped the same as a conventional patrol car - but come in different colors, do not have the roof-mounted bar light and are marked only on the passenger side with the State Police star and blue stripe.
