MAN ARRESTED IN 90 YEAR OLD WOMAN’S DEATH
(AP) - A Bay, Arkansas man arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of a 90 year old woman is due to appear in district court Monday.
Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd tells the Jonesboro Sun that Richard Jordan Tarver could potentially face charges of capital murder, burglary and kidnapping.
Tarver was arrested Friday in connection with the death of Lavinda Counce, who went missing July 3. She was missing nine days before her body was found in a cornfield with a gunshot wound to the head.
Tarver is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center. There was no information in jail records whether Tarver had an attorney.
SIKESTON TEEN DROWNS IN MADISON COUNTY
(AP) - Authorities say an 18 year old man has drowned at the popular "Offsets" recreation area in Madison County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as Devron Looney of Sikeston. The patrol says he jumped off an 18-foot cliff Saturday afternoon and did not resurface.
His body was taken to the coroner's office in Madison County.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING WRECK NEAR WALNUT RIDGE
Arkansas authorities say one person has died following a wreck Friday morning.
According to the Arkansas State Police, the crash occurred on Highway 91, four miles south of Walnut Ridge. A vehicle driven by 42 year old Danny Welsh, of Grubbs, reportedly crossed the center line and struck another vehicle.
Welsh was killed in the wreck.
SPRINGFIELD MAN KILLED IN RIPLEY COUNTY ATV WRECK
A Springfield man is dead following an ATV wreck Saturday in Ripley County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an ATV driven by 29 year old Michael Barton struck a tree on private property near Doniphan.
Barton was pronounced dead at the scene.
SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING AT A BUSINESS IN KENNETT
Another suspect is in custody in connection to a shooting incident at a business in Kennett earlier this month.
According to authorities, Dontario Jones surrendered to police over the weekend. Charges for Jones were not released.
Two additional suspects, 36 year old Antonio Brown, of Joiner, and 35 year old Julius Jones, of Blytheville, have already been arrested.
They are each facing charges of attempted murder and terroristic act.
MALDEN POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING
Malden police are investigating a weekend shooting.
Shortly after 3 am Saturday morning, officers responded to a report of a crash and found a subject slumped over the wheel of an SUV. The man was reportedly suffering from a gunshot wound.
Residents in the area described hearing what sounded like multiple gunshots then a loud collision or crash noise.
Information about the condition or identity of the victim has not yet been released.
CARTER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY INVOLVED IN WRECK
A Carter County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in a wreck Friday night.
The deputy was driving on Highway 60 to a reported fire when a vehicle merged onto the road and collided with him.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the driver of the second vehicle, 45 year old Jennifer Sutton, suffered moderate injuries. The deputy, 24 year old Kristopher Wilkins, had minor injuries.
CREWS TO BE IN WAYNE COUNTY FOR ASPHALT OVERLAYS
Route A in Wayne County is being reduced to one lane with a 9 foot width restriction through mid August so contractor crews can overlay the road with asphalt.
The work zone is located between U.S. Route 67 and Route 49.
Work will performed today through Friday, August 14th from 6 am to 6 pm each day.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD AND DUNKLIN COUNTIES
Contract crews will be in Stoddard and Dunklin Counties beginning today for pavement repairs on Route 25.
During the repairs, Route 25 will be reduced from Route U to Route 153 so contractor crews can seal the roadway.
Work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 5 pm daily through Saturday, August 8th.
MISSOURI ROUTE 53 TO BE REDUCED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS
Route 53 in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane beginning today as contractor crews seal the roadway.
The section of roadway is located from Campbell to Holcomb.
Work will take place through Saturday, August 8th from 8 am to 5 pm daily.
