MURDER-SUICIDE SUSPECTED IN ARKANSAS SHOOTING DEATHS

 

(AP) - Baxter County authorities say murder-suicide is suspected in the deaths of a couple at a home near Mountain Home.

 

Sheriff John Montgomery says the bodies of 57 year old Terry Mills and 47 year old Sandra Christine Douglas were found shortly after 3 am Sunday at the home on a county road near Highway 201 north of Mountain Home.

 

Montgomery says deputies were first called to the home about 1 am Sunday by a relative of Mills to check on his welfare and that Mills met and spoke with deputies. The sheriff says deputies were asked about two hours later to again check on the couple and found both dead of gunshot wounds.

 

Montgomery said a suicide note and the weapon believed to have been used in the shootings were found at the scene.

 

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN FACING HEROIN CHARGE

 

A Poplar Bluff man is facing a heroin charge following his arrest Sunday evening in Butler County.

 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Jacob Knuckles was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, heroin.

 

Knuckles also faces charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and driving while intoxicated, drugs.

 

 

11 YEAR OLD GIRL SHOT DURING INCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 55

 

An 11 year old girl was shot in the neck Saturday during an incident on Interstate 55.

 

According to Pemiscot County authorities, the family of the girl was travelling on the interstate when the girl was shot through the driver’s side window.

 

An individual later contacted authorities and said he was shooting his pistol at around the time the girl was shot. Two guns were turned over to authorities for testing.

 

The girl has been flown to a Memphis hospital for surgery.

 

 

MAN ACCUSED OF INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHING 14 YEAR OLD GIRL

 

A Morley man has been taken into custody on sexual related charges.

 

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, his office received a report that 41 year old Terrial Tyler allegedly inappropriately touched a 14 year old female around the end of May.

 

Tyler is facing charges of second degree statutory sodomy and enticement of a child.

 

 

MAN ENTERS GUILTY PLEA ON FIREARM CHARGE

 

A Doniphan man faces up to 10 years in prison on a firearm charge.

 

According to the Daily American Republic, 24 year old Michael Cravens Jr. pleaded guilty last week to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

 

His sentencing was set for October 19th.

 

 

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON ASSAULT WARRANT

 

A Dexter man has been set a $50,000 cash bond on an assault warrant.

 

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 43 year old Julio Ernesto Rivera has been arrested on a warrant for first degree assault resulting in serious physical injury.

 

Additional details about the assault have not yet been released.

 

 

ADVANCE MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGES

 

An Advance man is facing felony drug charges following his arrest over the weekend.

 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Miles Jones was arrested Saturday night in Stoddard County on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute for hydrocodone and alprazolam.

 

Jones is also facing a charge of driving while intoxicated, drugs.

 

 

TWO ARRESTED IN WAYNE COUNTY ON DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES

 

Two men were arrested Saturday in Wayne County on drug and weapons charges.

 

According to authorities, 34 year old Halbert Wilson, of Jennings, and 27 year old Jermaine Mitchell, of St. Louis, were both arrested shortly before midnight Saturday night.

 

They are each facing felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, marijuana; and unlawful use of a weapon.

 

 

ROUTE 143 TO BE REDUCED TODAY FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS

 

Missouri Route 143 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane today while Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge deck repairs.

 

The work zone will be located between County Roads 315 and 314. The road will be reduced from 6:30 am to 5 pm.

 

 

BRIDGE REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK IN WAYNE COUNTY

 

Missouri Route 34 in Wayne County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

 

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Pittsburg Street to Ash Street.

 

Work will be performed through Thursday, July 30th from 6:30 am to 5 pm daily.

 

 

ROUTE Y IN CARTER COUNTY REDUCED FOR PARTIAL OVERLAY

 

Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Carter County this week for repairs on Route Y.

 

The road will be reduced to one lane from US 60 to the end of state maintenance so crews can partially overlay the roadway.

 

Work is scheduled to be done from 7 am to 4:30 pm daily through Thursday.

 

 

WEATHER SERVICE SAYS EXCESSIVE HEAT EXPECTED IN ARKANSAS

 

(AP) - A heat warning has been issued for several counties in eastern Arkansas and a heat advisory is in effect for the remainder of the state - both through Monday evening.

 

The National Weather Service issued the heat warning for eastern Arkansas from Jonesboro southward to Helena-West Helena until 8 p.m. Monday. Temperatures in the area are expected in the middle to upper 90s with heat index readings of 110 to 112 degrees.

 

Most of the remainder of the state is under a heat advisory until 7 pm Monday with heat indexes expected from 105 to 110 degrees.
