MISSING KAYAKER FOUND DEAD IN CURRENT RIVER  

Following up on a story we brought to you on Friday, Sheriff Ron Barnett with the Ripley County Sheriff's Department says that a kayaker who went missing Thursday afternoon has been found dead.

The body of 52 year old Russ O’Neal, of Doniphan, was discovered Sunday evening.

O’Neal had been floating downstream when he fell out of the kayak and submerged in Current River south of Doniphan.

 

ARREST MADE IN NAPA AUTO PARTS ROBBERY

 

Poplar Bluff police say a man was taken into custody in connection to a robbery at an area auto parts store.

Over two hundred and fifty dollars was allegedly taken from the NAPA Auto Parts store during the robbery. The suspect reportedly left his heart monitor in the store during the incident.

23 year old Kory Carda, of Poplar Bluff, was later taken into custody on charges of stealing and second degree burglary.

 

NAME RELEASED OF MAN ARRESTED IN HAYDENS ARMED ROBBERY

 

Poplar Bluff police have released the identity of a man who was arrested after an armed robbery Thursday at Hayden’s Bar-be-que.

David Sutton with the Poplar Bluff Police Department tells KWOC News that 55 year old Ronald Lunsford, of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody on charges of 1st degree robbery and armed criminal action.

Witnesses told officers that a man who was armed with a knife had fled the restaurant with cash taken from the register.

Lunsford was arrested at his home without incident.

 

TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN WAYNE COUNTY

 

Two Lowndes residents were taken into custody over the weekend on methamphetamine charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 45 year old John Colbert and 44 year old Tina Skaggs were arrested shortly after 8 pm Saturday in Wayne County.

They are each facing charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana.

Colbert is also charged with felony unlawful possession of a firearm.

 

MAN KILLED AFTER GETTING HIT BY TRAIN IN CLAY COUNTY

 

A Piggott man is dead following a wreck Sunday afternoon involving a train.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 27 year old Aaron Beaver was attempting to cross the railroad tracks on Lincoln Street in Clay County when his vehicle was struck by a train.

Beaver was killed in the wreck. The ASP did not report any other injuries from the collision.

 

MAN FOUND WITH METH IN POPLAR BLUFF

 

A Poplar Bluff man is facing multiple charges following his arrest Thursday night.

According to Deputy Chief Jeff Rolland, with the Poplar Bluff Police Department, an officer observed 53 year old David Wallace travelling on a moped shortly after 8 pm Thursday. The officer knew Wallace had a warrant and pulled him over.

Wallace got off the moped and fled on foot. While fleeing, he fell to the ground and was taken into custody.

The officer found two small baggies that contained a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine in Wallace’s pocket.

Wallace was arrested on charges including possession of drugs – amphetamine and unlawful use of paraphernalia.

 

PUBLIC HEARING TO BE HELD TONIGHT ON POPLAR BLUFF PROPERTY TAX RATES

 

Citizens of Poplar Bluff will have the opportunity tonight to have their voice heard about the city’s property tax rates.

A public hearing has been scheduled for 6:45 pm tonight at the City Council Chambers in the City municipal building.

The hearing will allow citizens to speak about the property tax rates proposed by the City Council.

 

HIGHWAY 51 REPAIRS BEGINNING TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

 

Highway 51 in Butler County is being reduced to one lane beginning today so contractor crews can perform pavement repairs.

The work zone is located between the Arkansas State line and Missouri Route 53.

Work is scheduled to take place through Friday, August 28th from 5 am to 7 pm daily.
