ONE DEAD FOLLOWING TWO VEHICLE WRECK IN BUTLER COUNTYA Springfield IL, man is dead following a two vehicle wreck Sunday morning in Butler County.

A spokesperson with Missouri State Highway Patrol tells KWOC News that the wreck happened 5 miles north of Poplar Bluff on Highway 67, when a vehicle driven by 30 year old Lavon Greer, of Springfield, IL, struck another vehicle in the rear, ran off the roadway, and overturned. The passenger, 37 year old Dossie Sanders also of Springfield, IL, was ejected from the vehicle.

Sanders was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital and later pronounced dead by Butler County Coroner Jim Akers. Minor injuries were listed for the driver of the other vehicle.

 

DEXTER POLICE TO PARTICIPATE IN HOLIDAY DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER CAMPAIGN The Dexter Police will be participating in a nationwide drunk driving camping over the holidays.

Lieutenant Joshua Benton tells KWOC News that Dexter police will be out in full force from December 18th through January 3rd as part of the annual nationwide Holiday DWI enforcement crackdown on substance-impaired driving.

Benton says officers will be aggressively looking for substance-impaired drivers during the crackdown and will arrest anyone caught driving impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.

 

DATES SET FOR 30TH ANNUAL AG EXPO IN POPLAR BLUFF The dates have been set for the 30th Ag Expo in Poplar Bluff.

The 2016 Ag Expo will be held on January 15th and 16th at the Black River Coliseum. Phyllis Flanigan with the University of Missouri Extension says there will be 118 booths available to visit and booth spaces are now available to rent.

In addition there will also be education seminars, a toy tractor pedal pull, the FFA tractor driving contest, cow milking contest, and the annual beauty pageant.

ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED, IN CONNECTION TO PORTAGEVILLE AREA WRECK A Portageville man is dead in connection to a two vehicle wreck in New Madrid County.

According to the Highway Patrol, the wreck happened Saturday afternoon on Highway 162, 2 miles east of Portageville, when a vehicle driven by 49 year old Mary Taylor, of Lilbourn, failed to yield for another vehicle and was hit. The second vehicle was then struck in the passenger side.

A passenger in the second vehicle, 59 year old David Britt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both, Taylor and the driver of the second vehicle were flown to a Cape Girardeau with serious injuries.

 

SCREENING APPOINTMENTS BEING ACCEPTED FOR POPLAR BLUFF EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER Appointments are now being taken for the next screening day for the Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center.

The screening appointments for the 2016-2017 school year are available for children who will be 3 years old before July 31st, 2016 and will not be 5 years old before that date. The screenings will be held on Thursday, February 11th.

POPLAR BLUFF BETA CLUB MAKES DONATION TO WHOLE KIDS OUTREACH The Poplar Bluff High School Beta Club has made their annual donation to Whole Kids Outreach.

The Beta Club donated toys and wrapping paper on December 5th.

Whole Kids Outreach operates the Share-A-Toy Christmas Store in Ellington which supplies a stocking stuffer and a game to children in need if families volunteer to serve the nonprofit for one hour or make a donation.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION TOUR CONCERT TO MAKE STOP AT FIRST GENERAL BAPTIST CHURCH The Heart to Heart and Doug Thornton Christmas Celebration Tour will be making a stop this week in Poplar Bluff.

The concert will be held at First General Baptist Church on Friday, December 18th.

The show is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
