WAPPAPELLO MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED ASSAULT ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER  

A Wappapello man has been taken into custody for an attempted assault charge.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 53 year old Michael Eakin was arrested Tuesday night in Wayne County on a felony charge of attempted assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon.

Following the arrest, Eakin was taken to the Wayne County Jail.

 

CHARLESTON MAN ACCUSED OF ATTEMPTED RAPE A Charleston man has been taken into custody in connection to a report of an attempted rape.

Director Robert Hearnes with the Charleston Department of Public Safety tells KWOC News that a woman reported on Tuesday that a man had broke into her house and tried to rape her.

The victim provided a description of her alleged attacker which later led to the arrest of 28 year old Jeremy Rigney on charges of 1st degree burglary, 1st degree attempted rape, 1st degree elder abuse, and felonious restraint.

Hearnes says Rigney is being held in the Mississippi County Jail on a $500,000 cash only bond.

 

GIFT WRAP FUNDRAISER TO BE HELD THURSDAY TO BENEFIT ST. JUDE A Gift Wrap Fundraiser will be held on Thursday to benefit St. Jude.

Attendees can drop off their packages from 3 to 9 pm at the Gamma Conference Center. Officials say there are no set prices, they are just asking for a monetary donation to St. Jude.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON ARSON CHARGE Authorities in Poplar Bluff say an area man was taken into custody over the weekend on an arson charge.

According to Poplar Bluff Police, 30 year old Leotis Allen, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested in connection to a fire at an area residence on Saturday. The residence suffered a small amount of damage due to the fire.

Allen is facing a charge of 2nd degree arson.

 

EARTHQUAKE RECORDED NEAR NEW MADRID Officials with the United States Geological Survey say an earthquake was recorded Tuesday morning in Southeast Missouri.

The 2.5 magnitude earthquake occurred at 5:41 am 7 miles south of New Madrid. The quake had a depth of over 5 miles.

 

SEVEN POPLAR BLUFF SENIORS INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Seven Poplar Bluff High School Students were inducted into the National Honor Society last week.

Seniors Chase Burch, Zachary Cambron, Chang Chi, Steven Haley, Kailee Kanell, Zachery Lawrence and Mallory Pierce during the fall ceremony held on December 10th.

Chapter adviser Paul Conover says selection is based on GPA, service, leadership, and character by majority vote of a five-member faculty council appointed annually by the high school principal.
