TIPS FOR HAVING YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS KEEP YOUR HOME SECURE WHILE YOU ARE ON VACATION

Continuing our weeklong series on how to keep your family and possessions safe while on vacation, today we are going to focus on how you can ask your friends and neighbors to keep your home secure while you are away.

Officials with the Poplar Bluff Police Department say that residents ask several neighbors to keep an eye on your residence while you are away.

If you can, arrange for a neighbor to pick up your deliveries, including mail, newspaper, and any other packages, as well as for someone to maintain your yard.

You can ask for a neighbor to park in your driveway while you are gone. If you leave your car at home, park as you normally would.

The reason for these suggestions is so that your home will appear to be occupied, even though you are gone.

You should also leave your vacation address and telephone number with the neighbors so you can be reached in case of an emergency.

Coming up tomorrow we will go over tips on how to stay safe while on the road to and from your destination.
