POPLAR BLUFF RESIDENTS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR UTILITY WORKERSResidents of Poplar Bluff should be prepared for an upcoming visit from utility crews.
According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, in the coming months, city residents will be receiving a visit from work crews from Anixter, a company contracting with Poplar Bluff Municipal Utilities. The crews will be trading current electric meters to a new more advanced meter.
According to officials, the workers will be in white vans and wearing an ID.
The workers will attempt to advise you just prior to changing out the equipment but will conduct the meter trade during their visit. The power outage will last approximately 5 to 10 seconds.
TODAY IS FINAL DAY TO REGISTER FOR NOVEMBER ELECTION Residents in three Southeast Missouri counties will be voting in elections next month and time is running out for you to register.
Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft tells KWOC News that today is the last day to register for the November 7th elections.
Some residents in Stoddard and Scott Counties will be voting in a legislative election while voters in Dunklin and Shannon Counties will be participating in special elections.
Ashcroft says any Missourian can visit www.GoVoteMissouri.com to register, check their registration status, or get more information about registering to vote. In order to register, you must be a U.S. citizen, a Missouri resident, and 18 years old by the day of the election.
ROUTE 60 TO BE REDUCED TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY FOR PAVEMENT REPAIRS Eastbound Route 60 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane today so Missouri Department of Transportation crews can perform pavement repairs.
The section of Route 60 being reduced is located between County Road 567 and Route Z.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 am to 5 pm.
TEMPERATURES TO BARELY GET TO 70 TODAY Remember to grab a jacket or windbreaker today before you leave home.
The high temperature is anticipated to stay in the upper 60’s today here in Poplar Bluff. The true fall weather will not make it to the weekend however, as forecasters are expecting temperatures to rise to the lower 80’s on Friday and upper 80’s on Saturday.
Fall will be back next week however, as area highs will be back in the lower 70’s on Monday and Tuesday.
PAVEMENT REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS ON BUTLER COUNTY RAMP TODAY Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Butler County today for pavement repairs on a Route 60 on ramp.
According to MoDOT, the Route T to Westbound Route 60 ramp will be reduced to one lane today for the repairs.
Work is scheduled to take place today from 7 am to 5 pm.
THREE POPLAR BLUFF R-1 FACULTY AWARDED GRANTS FROM MISSOURI SCHOOL TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Three faculty members in the Poplar Bluff R-1 School District have been awarded mini grants from the Missouri School Teachers Association for additional classroom resources.
According to Poplar Bluff MSTA President Karmen Carson, a total of 123 entries were submitted from the organization's Southeast Region and the winning proposals were reviewed anonymously by a retired teachers group.
The educators were granted $100 apiece toward their projects.
Eugene Field first grade teacher Kristen Spain will use her mini grant to receive a subscription to the Science Spin edition of Scholastic Magazine for its curriculum-based activities.
Lake Road librarian Shiela Boyles chose a set of books on the concept of 'growth mindset' so elementary teachers can have conversations with students about finding learning opportunities even in failure.
Junior High communication arts teacher Julie Gambill will purchase computer microphone equipment so students can work on their verbal skills by producing podcasts online.
