DANNY WHITELY NAMED AS ADVISER FOR INCOMING MISSOURI ATTORNEY GENERAL

Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whitely will be serving as an advisor to the incoming Missouri Attorney General.

Eric Schmitt announced his transition team yesterday which includes Whitely among over 10 other advisers.

Schmitt, the current Missouri Treasurer, will be taking over the Attorney General’s office due to the election of the current AG Josh Hawley to the United States Senate.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI HIGH SCHOOL TO PLAY FOR STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND

A Southeast Missouri High School will be competing for a state football championship this weekend.

The Class 1 State Championship game between the Hayti Indians and the Lincoln Cardinals will begin at 3 pm Saturday at Faurot Field in Columbia.

Hayti will be trying to finish a perfect season after not giving up more than 14 points in any game this year. Their closest game was in the Class 1, District 1 Championship game where they defeated Valle Catholic 28 to 7.

DONIPHAN WOMAN FACING MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Doniphan woman is facing multiple drug related charges following her arrest last night in Ripley County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 21 year old Haley Emmons, of Doniphan, was arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and Xanax.

Emmons is also facing charges of driving while intoxicated – drugs, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and careless and imprudent driving.

TWIN RIVERS STUDENT WINS AWARD AT ANNUAL BRIDGE BUILDING COMPETITION

A Twin Rivers High School student has won an award during the Missouri Department of Transportation’s 15th annual Bridge Building competition which was held on Thursday.

The annual competition challenges high school juniors and seniors to design and construct the most efficient model bridge using limited materials—15 pieces of balsa wood, thread and glue.

Twin Rivers student Kiera Williams-Hosentfe won the computer based electronic bridge award.

Oak Ridge, Chaffee and Notre Dame High Schools finished in first, second and third place respectively for best overall performance.

27TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND IN BERNIE

The 27th Annual Christmas Craft Fair in Bernie has been scheduled for this weekend.

The Craft Fair will be held from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday at the Bernie Community Center on Highway 25.

Officials say there will be food available as well as many shopping opportunities during the annual fundraiser for the community center.

BENEFIT TO BE HELD THIS WEEKEND FOR AREA WOMAN DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER

A benefit will be held this weekend for an area woman who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

The benefit for Sandy Sullivan Thompson will be held from 10 am to 2 pm Saturday at the R&B Vet Club in Doniphan.

There will be a chili and potluck dinner as well as an auction and raffle.

MODOT TO HELP GRANT CHRISTMAS WISHES TO AREA FAMILIES

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be participating in the Christmas Angels program again this year to help grant Christmas wishes to Southeast Missouri families.

This year's event will be held on Thursday, December 6th, with chili orders due by 4 pm on Tuesday, December 4th. The cost is $5 and will include a 16-ounce cup of chili, crackers and chips.

Current MoDOT employees and retirees volunteer to cook, pack and deliver chili for the event. To place an order, call (573) 472-5294. Orders of six or more in the Sikeston area can be delivered.

With the funds raised, volunteers purchase gifts for children who would not otherwise receive them. Last year, the event raised nearly $7,000, helping over 80 children.
