ONE ARRESTED ON WEAPON CHARGE FOLLOWING INCIDENT IN KENNETT

A Kennett resident has been taken into custody in connection to an incident on Monday.

Officials with the Kennett Police Department tell KWOC News that at around 8:30 pm Monday night, officers were dispatched to an area residence in reference to a fight in progress with one party being armed with a firearm.

Following an investigation, officers arrested 40 year old Mickey Halford for domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Halford was held in the Dunklin County Justice Center pending the filing of formal charges by the Dunklin County Prosecutor’s office.

 

INCOMING POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS REMINDED TO GET MENINGITIS IMMUNIZATION

Poplar Bluff High School students who will be entering the 12th grade this fall are being reminded to get their meningitis immunization.

According to Poplar Bluff School Health Coordinator Sheryl Talkington, any student entering the 12th grade will be required to have the meningitis immunization series prior to school starting or upon enrollment.

Talkington says that two doses of MCV are required for all incoming 12th graders unless the first dose was administered to a student who was 16 years of age or older, in which case only one dose is required.

If your child has already received these vaccinations, you are asked to send a copy to the nurse's office as soon as possible.

ROAD CLOSURE TO BEGIN TODAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY

Route MM in Dunklin County will be closed both today and tomorrow as crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation perform pavement repairs.

According to officials, the work zone will be located from County Road 102 to Route J.   

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 6 pm each day.

 

TWO ARRESTED ON METH CHARGES IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

Two women were taken into custody earlier this week in Northeast Arkansas for meth.

According to Greene County Sheriff David Carter, deputies arrested Shena Reed and Charlie Smith late Monday night during traffic stops.

Carter says that Reed was arrested for possession of crystal methamphetamine, while Smith was arrested for possession of crystal methamphetamine with purpose to deliver.

 

MAGNITUDE 2.5 EARTHQUAKE RECORDED IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

An earthquake rattled parts of Southeast Missouri Tuesday afternoon.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 2.5 quake was recorded at 2:09 pm Tuesday.

The earthquake was located around 4.7 miles southeast of Marston and had a depth of five miles.

 

DATE SET FOR BACK 2 SCHOOL CLOTHING DRIVE FOR RIPLEY COUNTY STUDENTS

A date has been announced for an upcoming clothing drive for some area students.

The Every Kid Counts Back 2 School Clothing Drive has been scheduled for 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, August 4th, at the West Point UPC Gymnasium.

There will be free clothing for all Ripley County students in Pre-K through 12thgrade at the event.
