TEENAGER DROWNS AFTER JUMPING OFF EMBANKMENT IN MADISON COUNTY

A Missouri teenager reportedly drowned Wednesday in Southeast Missouri.

According to authorities in Madison County, 19 year old Cole Duffell, of Chesterfield, jumped off an embankment, resurfaced for a short period of time, went back under the surface of the water, and did not reappear.

The incident occurred at around 1:45 pm at Offset Quarry, two miles north of Fredericktown.

Duffell’s body was taken to the Madison County Coroner’s Office.

 

TWO ARRESTED ON DRUG AND WEAPON CHARGES IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two area men were arrested Tuesday morning in Butler County on drug and weapon charges.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 28 year old Eric Isom, of Poplar Bluff, and Christopher Johnson, of Dexter, were each taken into custody shortly after 8 am Tuesday on a felony charge of possession with intent to distribute.

Isom is also facing a charge of unlawful use of a weapon and has warrants out of Poplar Bluff, Butler County, and Wayne County.

Johnson is facing additional felony charges of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility.

 

MAN ACCUSED OF SETTING VEHICLE ON FIRE AND ASSAULTING WOMAN WITH A BAT

Authorities in Steele say that an area man has been arrested in connection to an alleged assault earlier this week.

Steele Chief of Police Billy Joe Stanfield tells KWOC News that on Tuesday officers responded to an area home where they found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The fire had also spread to the front of a house and a Steele officer safely extracted one person from inside the home.

Stanfield says it was determined the fire was deliberately set and the suspected arsonist also assaulted a woman by striking her with a baseball bat.

60 year old Elbert Parsons, of Steele, has been taken into custody on charges of arson 1st degree, assault 1st degree, and armed criminal action. His bond was set at $25,000 cash only.

 

DEADLINE APPROACHING TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN MISSOURI PRIMARY ELECTION

The deadline is approaching to make sure you’re registered to vote in Missouri’s primary election.

According to the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office, the last day to register for the Missouri primary election is Wednesday, July 11th.

The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7th.

ILLINOIS MAN DIES AFTER HITING DEER NEAR ELLINGTON

An Illinois man has died after he struck a deer with his vehicle in Reynolds County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 22 year old Austin King, of Smithton, Illinois, hit the deer on Missouri Highway 21 at around 11:40 am Wednesday.

After striking the animal, King’s vehicle travelled off the side of the roadway and struck a guard rail. He was later pronounced dead by Reynolds County Assistant Coroner Tom Stout.

 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGE

A Poplar Bluff man was taken into custody last night on a felony drug trafficking charge.

According to authorities, 43 year old Earnest Adams Jr. was arrested shortly before 9 pm Wednesday on felony charges of 2nd degree trafficking drugs for methamphetamine and driving while revoked.

Adams also reportedly had warrants out of Poplar Bluff and Kansas.

 

TWO ARRESTED FOR COCAINE AND METH IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two North Carolina residents are facing multiple felony drug charges out of Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 35 year old Gerardo Dominguez, of Conover, North Carolina, and 34 year old Triesa White, of Denver, North Carolina, were taken into custody Monday night, shortly before 11:30 pm.

Both were arrested on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance for cocaine, methamphetamine, and clonazepam.

Dominguez is also facing a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance in a county jail.

 

WRECK IN BUTLER COUNTY LEAVES ONE PERSON WITH SERIOUS INJURIES

A single vehicle wreck Wednesday has left an area man with serious injuries.

According to officials, the wreck occurred at around 3:30 pm on Butler County Road 465 in the Roxy area.

A vehicle driven by 62 year old Danny Parker, of Poplar Bluff, reportedly ran off the side of the road and struck an embankment.

Parker was seriously injured in the wreck and transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
