KENNETT MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES 

Authorities say that a Kennett man was arrested Monday on multiple charges.  

According to the Kennett Police Department, Monday afternoon officers received information that a subject with outstanding warrants was sitting inside a vehicle on Central Street. 

At the scene, officers located the man barricaded inside a van and armed with a shotgun.  

After speaking with officers, 26 year old James Payne was taken into custody without incident.  

Inside the vehicle, officers located an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, prescription medication, ammunition, and the firearm.  

Payne was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and on a preexisting warrant issued out of Dunklin County.

RODEO TO HIGHLIGHT TONIGHT AT THE STODDARD COUNTY FAIR 

The Stoddard County Fair is continuing today with multiple events scheduled for tonight.  

Judging for sheep and goats will begin at 6 pm. At 7 pm, the rodeo will kick off at Arena A and Pastor Eric Lemons with Fusion Street Ministries will be the featured entertainment on the main stage.

CHILDREN’S FALL READING PROGRAM TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK AT POPLAR BLUFF MUNICIPAL LIBRARY 

The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library will be starting a reading program for children next week.  

The fall reading program, for children ages 3 to 17 years old will be held from September 24th through November 4th.  

Officials say that children can participate in a variety of reading activities to earn rewards during the program. Activities include, reading books for school or fun, being read to, listening to audio books, and helping friends and family.

STATE FIRE MARSHALL REQUESTED TO INVESTIGATE HOUSE FIRE IN POPLAR BLUFF 

An investigation is ongoing following a house fire in Poplar Bluff.  

Crews were dispatched to a home on Kendall Street Tuesday evening to respond to the fire, which had spread throughout the home. 

No injuries have been reported and authorities have requested the State Fire Marshall to investigate.

POPLAR BLUFF BEGINNING ADOPT A STREET PROGRAM 

Poplar Bluff area citizens and organizations are being given the opportunity to help keep the city clean.  

The Poplar Bluff City Council has passed an ordinance for the Adopt-a-Street Litter Control Program. The program allows citizens, organizations, and church or civic clubs to work with the City by adopting a segment of a roadway and agreeing to keep it clean.  

The city will provide trash bags for the cleanup events and pick up the full bags left along the route. A sign displaying the individual or organizations name will be installed after two consecutive pickups have been completed by the individual or organization.

POPLAR BLUFF STUDENTS COLLECTING BOTTLE CAPS 

Poplar Bluff High School students are collecting bottle caps for a chance to win $10,000.  

Poplar Bluff Senior High is competing against schools throughout the region as a part of the Dr. Pepper Pigskin Points Contest. 

The maroon bottle caps on associated products imprinted with football helmets are being collected through December 14th, at the Mules Stadium, the PBHS front office, and near the cafeteria stage. 

The collections are being spearheaded by the PBHS Beta Club and National Honor Society to hopefully generate money for the student organizations. 

Students are also planning to participate in an accompanying barrel decorating contest for a chance to win $500.
