ELECTIONS HELD FOR CITY COUNCIL POSITIONS IN BUTLER COUNTY

Multiple area city council races were decided during election day on Tuesday.

Lisa Armes Parson won the seat representing Ward 1 on the Poplar Bluff City Council over Kit Skaggs.

In Neelyville, John Knowles defeated Dana Blagg for the Ward 1 Alderman position.

Voters in Fisk were split almost evenly for the councilman position representing Ward 1 with Kristi Wilkerson winning over Jeff Ledbetter by one vote.

A two million dollar bond issue was also approved for Public Water Supply and Sewerage District #4 of Wayne and Butler Counties.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS HELD TUESDAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Multiple area school boards elections were held yesterday in Butler County.

For the Twin Rivers School District, the top two were Gordon Lee Wright and Bruce Goodrich.

The two candidates to receive the most votes for the Neelyville School District were Jack Stull and Jill McGruder.

For the Doniphan School District, the two winning candidates were Riley March and Steven Ivy.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI MAN CONVICTED FOR STATUTORY RAPE AND MOLESTATION

A Southeast Missouri man was convicted last week in Wayne County on multiple charges including statutory rape.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt tells KWOC News that 30 year old Daniel Martin, was convicted by a Wayne County jury on March 27th of three counts of statutory sodomy 1st degree, one count of statutory rape 1st degree, one count of attempted statutory rape 1st degree, one count of attempted statutory sodomy 1st degree, and three counts of child molestation 3rd degree.

Schmitt says that the defendant sexually abused a child for several months at a home in Bollinger County.

Sentencing has been scheduled for July 17th and Martin faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

CONTRACTS AWARDED FOR VARIOUS ROAD PROJECTS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

Contracts were awarded yesterday by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for various road projects in Southeast Missouri.

A 6.8 million dollar contract was awarded for pavement improvements on Route 142 from Route EE near Thayer, to west of Route 160 near Doniphan.

An over $432,000 contract was awarded for slope repairs at various locations along Route 67 and Route 60 in Butler, Carter, Madison, and Shannon counties.

Bridge replacement contracts were also given for bridges on Route HH and Route K in Pemiscot County, along with Route AA in New Madrid County.

Officials say that additional information, including timelines and impacts to traffic, will be released prior to the start of construction.

BUSINESS 60 IN STODDARD COUNTY TO BE REDUCED TODAY

Business Route 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform edge rut repairs.

This section of roadway is located from north Mulberry and north Catalpa.

Weather permitting, work will take place Wednesday, April 3 from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS SET FOR TODAY IN RIPLEY COUNTY

Route B in Ripley County will be reduced today so crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation can perform pavement overlay.

Officials say the work zone will be located from Route 160 to Route 142.

Work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 3:30 pm.
