DUDLEY MAN ARRESTED FOR HITTING PEDESTRIAN WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE  

A weekend auto accident involving a pedestrian has resulted in the arrest of a Dudley man.  

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle struck 44 year old Thomas Ray, of Poplar Bluff, on US Highway 60, 1 mile east of Poplar Bluff, shortly after midnight Sunday morning.   

An investigation revealed Ray was struck by a vehicle driven by 19 year old Jimmy Moore. Police arrested Moore and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in serious injury.  

Ray suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Poplar Bluff hospital.

DATE SET FOR UPCOMING ROAD PROJECT ON ROUTE 60 IN BUTLER, CARTER, AND SHANNON COUNTIES 

Dates have been set for an almost two month long project that will cause delays along Route 60 in Butler, Carter, and Shannon Counties.  

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, travelers on east and westbound Route 60 should expect temporary lane closures beginning May 13th as contractor crews perform slope and drainage repairs. The project limits will extend from Route 67 in Poplar Bluff to Route E in Winona. 

As work is underway, Route 60 will be reduced with a 12-foot width restriction at various locations. Short, temporary work zones will be set up within the project limits. Each work zone will be in place for several days before crews move to the next location. 

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by July 8th.

BUTLER COUNTY TORNADO SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY 

Authorities in Butler County will be testing the tornado sirens today.  

According to Butler County Emergency Management Director Robbie Myers, the sirens are scheduled to be tested today at noon.  

Myers says that the tests will be conducted every month on the first Monday. 

HIGH WATER FORCES CLOSURES TO MULTIPLE FACILITIES AT WAPPAPELLO LAKE 

High water levels have forced the closure of multiple facilities at Wappapello Lake.  

According to the United States Corps of Engineers, as of 8 am on Sunday the lake level was at 377.4 feet with a predicted crest at or below 379 feet on Tuesday. With additional rainfall likely this week, this could change the predicted crest. 

Officials say that numerous facilities have been closed due to the high water including the Chaonia South, Greenville, Rockwood Landing, and Possum Creek Boat Ramps, Snow Creek Campground, Redman Beach, Rockwood Beach and Restroom, Peoples Creek Recreation Area, and Peoples Creek Lower Campground.

POPLAR BLUFF WOMAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE DRUG CHARGES 

Authorities in Butler County have arrested a Poplar Bluff woman on multiple drug charges.  

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol arrest report, 37 year old Amy Croy was arrested Saturday morning on charges of possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.  

Following the arrest, Croy was transported to the Butler County Justice Center.

POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL AWARDED TWO THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT 

A Poplar Bluff school has been awarded an over two thousand dollar grant to increase technology.  

School officials say that O'Neal elementary was recently awarded a $2,190 grant from Ronald McDonald House Charities. 

The funding was used to purchase ten Chromebooks that can be added to laptop carts in advance of MAP testing. 

Intervention teacher Amber Foster applied for the grant with assistance from reading instructor Krista Sells. They received notification of the award from the grant committee in December.

NEW TOURISM WEBSITE LAUNCHED FOR THE REGION 

A new website has been launched to help promote tourism in the region.  

SeeTheOzarks.com is a tourism information website for outdoor enthusiasts travelling around Southeast Missouri’s rivers, lakes, springs, and forests.  

Visitors to the site can find lodging, dining, recreation, and local shops as well as other tourist related information including visitor’s centers, museums, and parks.  

The project is a partnership between the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce, the City of Poplar Bluff, and the Missouri Division of Tourism.
