NEELYVILLE R-4 SCHOOL DISTRICT CLOSING FOR THE WEEK DUE TO COVID-19 SPIKE

The Neelyville R-4 school district will be closed this week due to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The school board made the announcement on Thursday, stating that the school has seen a drastic increase in coronavirus cases, which led to the decision of shutting down the campus for the week. At the time of the meeting, there were 87 students and thirteen staff that were under quarantine.

A follow-up announcement reported that 18 students and 8 staff tested positive for the virus on Friday, while another 18 students were waiting for test results.

Officials with the school board will be keeping an eye on the situation, and more decisions will be made at the end of the week. The school’s office will be open for calls from 8 am to 3:30 pm for anyone with questions.

MILL SPRING MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN WAYNE COUNTY ON MULTIPLE DRUG RELATED CHARGES

A Mill Spring man was arrested in Wayne County on Friday on multiple drug related charges.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, 46 year old Tomye White was taken into custody on several felony possession of a controlled substance charges, including: methamphetamine, 6 pills of Lorazepam, and 1 Hydrocodone pill.

He was also charged with possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arrest, he was transported to the Wayne County Jail.

DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED FOLLOWING VEHICLE CRASH IN PEMISCOT COUNTY

Serious injuries were reported from a vehicle crash in Pemiscot County on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on US 61, north of Cooter, where a vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn and eject the driver.

The driver was transported by air to a hospital in Tennessee for treatment.

TRIAL SET FOR POPLAR BLUFF MAN ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES

A trial has been set for a Poplar Bluff man who shot at officers attempting to arrest him in July of 2018.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 30 year old James Johnson Jr. will appear in court for state felony charges on 1st degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action, resisting arrest, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

These charges stem from an investigation made from the 2018 report, where Johnson shot at multiple authorities, including a Poplar Bluff officer, while they were attempting to take him into custody. He was taken into custody following a short standoff.

He will appear in court on November 17th for these charges.

ROADWAYS IN BUTLER AND STODDARD COUNTIES SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION

Roadways in Butler and Stoddard Counties are scheduled to be reduced while undergoing repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 53 in Butler County, from County Road 205 to County Road 202, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform repairs on the bridge over the Black River. The work will be done today through Tuesday, from 8 am to 4 pm daily.

A section of Route J in Stoddard County, from Route AA to Tower Street in Bloomfield, will be reduced to one lane while MODOT crews perform pavement repairs. The work is set to begin today at 7:30 am, and will continue until 3 pm on Wednesday.

ARREST MADE IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE

An arrest was made in Stoddard County on Saturday on a drug possession charge.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 20 year old Nicholas Azure, of Essex, was booked on possession of a controlled substance – except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid.

He was transported to the Stoddard County Jail following his arrest, on a $10,500 cash only bond.
