SEATS ON THE POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL UP FOR ELECTION
Two seats on the Poplar Bluff City Council, as well as other city posts throughout Butler County, are up for election today.
Robert Duckett, Chester Pumphrey, Steve Davis, Logan Gilham, Jim Chrisman, Peter Tinsley, Chris Taylor, Brent Eason, and Robert Durbin are all running for the Councilman at-large seats on the Poplar Bluff City Council.
Voters in Qulin will also be selecting an alderman today. Cheryl Johnson will be taking on Donna Nagy for the Qulin Ward 1 Alderman position.
Also in Qulin, voters will choose between Douglas Ledbetter and Glen Sedrick for the City of Qulin Mayor.
Voters in Poplar Bluff will be voting on a use tax issue during today’s election.
MAN ARRESTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON THREAT CHARGES
A man was taken into custody on Sunday in Kennett after making threats to area authorities.
According to the Kennett Police Department, 19 year old Kyle Pennington was arrested after he threatened to burn down the Kennett Police Department and police vehicles, as well as threatening to harm city police officers.
He was transported to the Dunklin County Jail on a terrorist threatening charge, after turning himself in to the Kennett Police Department on Sunday evening.
NEW CASES OF CORONAVIRUS REPORTED IN BUTLER AND STODDARD COUNTIES
There have been new cases of the COVID-19 virus reported in Butler and Stoddard Counties.
According to the counties’ health departments, Butler County has seen three new cases of the coronavirus, raising its total to 40, while Stoddard County has reported two new cases since Monday, bringing the total number of cases in the County to 84.
The patients have either been hospitalized or put under self quarantine, and health departments are working with the CDC to identify and contact anyone who may have come into contact with the patients while they were active.
According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, as of Monday, there are a total of 13,327 confirmed cases of the virus in the state, and 773 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

ONE DEAD, TWO INJURED FROM MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH IN RIPLEY COUNTY
One death, and two injured persons were reported from a multi-vehicle collision in Ripley County on Monday.
According to officials from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on US 160, west of Fairdealing, where a vehicle struck the rear of another car, causing it to cross the centerline, where it was hit by a third vehicle.
The driver of the third car was seriously injured, and an occupant of the same vehicle was moderately injured as a result of the crash; both were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
The driver of the struck vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
VOTERS TO DECIDE ON SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY
Multiple area school boards will be holding elections today in Butler County.
For the Twin Rivers School District, the candidates for three school board seats are Jeff Arnold, Billy Watson, Bobby King, Karen Buttrey, and Joshua Johnson.
In Neelyville, nine people are running for three board seats, Derek Emmons, Zachary Shipman, Justin Beaird, Robert Burgett, Chuck Reinbott, Terry Wilkerson Jr., Robert Fisher, Paul Petty, and Shane Eaker.
For the Naylor School Board, voters will choose three of Will Spargo, Brian Cannon, Eric Crofford, and Ryan Ainley.
In the Doniphan School District, there are five candidates for the three board seats, James Maple, Deborah Lathum, Jane Stilwell, Stephen Burke, and Devin Kirby.
NEW MADRID COUNTY ROADWAY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTIONS DURING REPAIRS
A New Madrid County roadway will be reduced for the month while repairs are underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, various locations across Route 62 will be under lane reductions and width restrictions while multiple projects begin, including bridge and pavement repairs from Route 163 to Route 61.
The projects are scheduled to start today, and will continue through July 11th, from 6 am to 8 pm daily.
