BUTLER COUNTY CANDIDATE FORUM SCHEDULED FOR TONIGHT IN POPLAR BLUFF
Many area candidates who will be competing in the upcoming primary election will be speaking tonight in Poplar Bluff.
The 2020 Butler County Candidate Forum hosted by Today’s Talk KWOC, is scheduled at the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce. 15 candidates are running for five positions on the ballot in Butler County. Each candidate will be allowed five minutes to introduce themselves, and tell why they think they are the best person for that position.
The event is by invitation only. KWOC will also be broadcasting the event beginning at 6 pm over the radio at 93.3 FM and 930 AM as well as on the KWOC Facebook page. Live coverage for this event is presented by Barker’s Towing.
The Missouri Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 4th.
SIX NEW CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY
Six additional cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Butler County on Monday.
According to the Butler County Health Department, the new cases have brought the County’s total to 185 cases. Of them, 154 have recovered, one is hospitalized, and 27 are still in self-isolation. The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.
In Missouri, as of Monday, there are a total of 43,050 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,201 deaths have been directly linked to the death.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of the virus, including shortness of breath, persistent coughing, or fever, you are advised to contact your primary healthcare provider before visiting any hospital or emergency room.
WOMAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN STODDARD COUNTY ON DRUG POSSESSION CHARGE
A Broseley woman was arrested in Stoddard County on Monday on a drug possession charge.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 43 year old Shannon Hathaway was booked on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the Stoddard County Jail on a $3,500 cash or surety bond.
WILLIAMSVILLE MAN ARRESTED ON ACCUSATION OF CREATING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
A Williamsville man was taken into custody on accusations of creating child pornography, as well as a statutory sodomy charge.
According to officials with he Butler County Sheriff’s Department, 58 year old Jeffrey Downing was charged with 2nd degree statutory sodomy, and a felony charge on sexual exploitation of a minor.
These charges stem from an investigation made by the Department after Downing was accused of knowingly creating child pornography in January of 2017. Three thumb drives given to the Department held video and photographs of a then 14 year old female, all dated in 2017.
Downing also admitted that he had sexual contact with the child. He is currently being held at the Butler County Jail, with no bond.
LOCAL DRIVER SERIOUSLY INJURED IN VEHICLE CRASH IN STODDARD COUNTY
A Poplar Bluff driver was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Stoddard County on Sunday.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the incident took place on US 60, north of Fisk, where a vehicle went around a work zone and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle.
Following the crash, the driver was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.
ROADWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED TO CLOSE DURING BRIDGE WORK
A roadway in Stoddard County will be closed while bridge work is underway.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route Z, between County Road 738 and 741, will be closed while contractor crews replace a bridge over a drainage ditch on the roadway.
The work is scheduled to begin on August 3rd, and is expected to be completed on September 16th.
