THIRTEEN CASES OF COVID-19 REPORTED IN BUTLER COUNTY; MISSOURI TOTAL NOW OVER 72,000
Thirteen additional cases of the coronavirus were reported in Butler County, while Missouri is now over 72,000 cases of the virus.
According to the Butler County Health Department, the confirmed cases have risen the County’s total to 330 cases. Of them, 269 have recovered, 48 are still in isolation, and 9 are currently hospitalized. The department will be working with the CDC to contact anyone who may have been exposed to the virus while the patients were active and infectious.
In Missouri, as of Thursday, there are a total of 72,850 cases of the virus in the state, and 1,508 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.

DRIVER INJURED FOLLOWING RIPLEY COUNTY VEHICLE CRASH
A driver was injured in Ripley County on Thursday following a vehicle crash.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place on US 160, west of Doniphan, where a vehicle began sliding while traveling, which caused it to overturn.
The driver suffered minor injuries from the crash, and was transported to a Poplar Bluff Hospital for treatment.
ROADWAY IN DUNKLIN COUNTY SCHEDULED FOR REDUCTION DURING REPAIRS
A roadway in Dunklin County will be reduced while undergoing repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of Route 412, from Route Z to Route U, will be reduced while MODOT crews perform pavement repairs on the roadway.
The work is scheduled to begin on August 28th, and is expected to be completed by September 2nd.
AKERS CONFIRMED AS BUTLER COUNTY CORONER
A recount in Butler County has confirmed the County’s new coroner.
Officials report that a recount of the race between Jim Akers and Andy Moore took place on Wednesday, which confirmed that Akers beat out Moore for the position by 30 votes.
A recount for the position of Ripley County Sheriff will be held on August 27th, after Incumbent Mike Barton won over Richie Phillips by just one vote, with Barton holding 1,307 votes to Phillip’s 1,306.
INJURIES REPORTED IN STODDARD COUNTY IN VEHICLE CRASH
Injuries were reported after a vehicle crashed in Stoddard County on Tuesday.
Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that a vehicle failed to negotiate a curve on County Road 284, north of AID, causing it to run off the left side of the roadway and strike a tree.
The driver was moderately injured following the crash, and was transported to a hospital in Dexter for treatment.
AUTHORITIES IN PARAGOULD DOUBLING DOWN FOR LABOR DAY
Authorities in Paragould will be doubling their efforts for arresting drunk drivers for Labor Day.
According to the Paragould Police Department, the decision for stricter policies in the city was made in an effort to prevent impaired driving as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s campaign, which runs from August 21st through September 7th.
The 2018 Labor Day weekend saw 439 fatalities nationwide, 43% of which involved drivers who had been drinking.
