SEVERAL ELECTIONS IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CONTESTED
There are several elections seeing contested races for the April ballot.
For Poplar Bluff, the seat of Ward 4, which is currently held by Shane Cornman, is being contested by Robert Durbin, a former candidate in 2020. Cornman filed for re-election in December.
Jerrica Fox, a former council member, is running for Ward 2 in Poplar Bluff. The seat is currently held by Ed DeGaris.
For the Poplar Bluff R-1 school board, incumbents Tim Gaebler and Ken Davis are being contested for their seats by Kevin Ellis.
There are also races for seats at the Neelyville City Council and School Board.
Current Mayor Kevin Byrnum is racing against Karen Prosser, and the city has two open seats for Ward 1 and 2. They are seeing uncontested races by John Knowles for Ward 1, and Jeffery Gilmore for Ward 2.
There are currently six candidates running for two seats on the Neelyville School Board, which are being held by Jim Hover, who has filed for re-election, and Gene Russom.
The candidates running against Hover are Travis Russom, Justin Pennington, Ashley Taylor, Dean Fisher, and Justin Beaird.
For the Twin Rivers R-X board, incumbents Keith Parker and Donna Fincher will be running uncontested for re-election.
MAN ARRESTED IN DUNKLIN COUNTY ON METHAMPHETAMINE POSSESSION
A man was taken into custody in Dunklin County on a methamphetamine charge on Monday.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Department, 27 year old William Cook was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.
He was transported to the Dunklin County Jail following his arrest.
ROADWAY IN STODDARD COUNTY SCHEDULED TO REDUCE DURING REPAIRS
A roadway in Stoddard County will be reduced today while undergoing repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, a section of U.S. Route 60, from One Mile Road to Old Highway 25 in Dexter, will be reduced while MODOT crews perform shoulder repairs.
The work will start today at 7 am, and is expected to be completed by 3 pm.
TOTAL CASES OF COVID-19 IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI OVER 440,000
The total coronavirus cases in Missouri is now over 440,000, while cases continue to be reported across the state.
Butler County has seen 45 new cases of the virus since Tuesday, bringing the County’s total to 3,917. The County has also reported four coronavirus related deaths, bringing Butler County to 41 deaths caused by the virus.
Stoddard County reported 35 cases over the weekend, and the County now stands at 2,878. Of them, 85 are currently active, while 2,733 have recovered.
Dunklin County now stands at 2,975 cases. Of them, 2,889 have recovered, while 68 are still active.
In Missouri, as of Tuesday, there are now 440,197 cases of the virus in the state, while 6,263 deaths have been directly linked to the disease.
OHIO WOMAN CHARGED WITH FELONY DRUG POSSESSION IN NEW MADRID
An Ohio woman was charged with a felony drug possession charge in New Madrid County on Thursday.
According to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, 50 year old Refugia Delafuente, of Toledo, was arrested on felony possession of a controlled substance – cocaine.
Following her arrest, she was transported to the New Madrid County Jail.
BLACK RIVER COLISEUM HOLDING INDOOR YARD SALE
The Black River Coliseum will be holding an indoor yard sale in early February.
The event will feature a variety of booths and goods to view and purchase, and will be held at the Coliseum on February 5th from 7 am to 5 pm, and on February 6th, from 7 am to 2 pm.
