MIRANDA FICKERT NAMED CITIZEN OF THE YEAR BY POPLAR BLUFF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

A familiar face in Poplar Bluff has been honored as the 2020 Citizen of the Year.

Miranda Fickert was given the award during the annual Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce Banquet that was held on Saturday at the Black River Coliseum. 

During the banquet, the Chamber also gave the 2020 Ambassador of the Year Award to River Radio’s own, Nikki Leonard. 

EIGHT MONTH ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF 

An eight month road project is scheduled to begin today in Poplar Bluff.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Business U.S. 60, will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction so contractor crews can perform roadside work. 

The section of roadway to be reduced is located from Westwood Boulevard to Second Street.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 AM to 6 PM daily through Friday, October 1st.

 

POPLAR BLUFF SPORTS TEAM ENSHRINED IN MISSOURI SPORTS HALL OF FAME 

A Poplar Bluff sports team is now a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

The Poplar Bluff High School Boys Golf Program was enshrined in the Hall on Sunday as a part of the class of 2021. The Mules have won six state championships and have finished among the top four in the state 19 times, the third-most in state history.

Bill Caputo, who coached the Mules to the State Championship in 1995 and 1996, represented the program at the enshrinement. 

 

APPLICATIONS TO BE ACCEPTED THIS MONTH FOR RIPLEY COUNTY RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM 

Beginning today, the Ripley County Public Housing Agency will be accepting applications for the Section 8 Rental assistance program.

Officials tell KWOC News that applications will be done digitally this year and the best way to submit an application is at RipleyCo.HousingManager.com.

Anyone interested in the program can also go to the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission at 3019 Fair Street in Poplar Bluff to apply.

Applications will be accepted through February 28th. 


AUTHORITIES IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS ARREST MURDER SUSPECT

A man who was wanted in connection to a murder in Indiana has been apprehended in Northeast Arkansas.

According to authorities, 38 year old Gabriel Galvez, of Indianapolis, was taken into custody Saturday morning in Randolph County.

Galvez was arrested following a traffic stop near Reyno and was transported to the Randolph County Jail. 


BUTLER COUNTY TORNADO SIRENS TO BE TESTED TODAY

Don’t be surprised if you hear sirens today in Butler County.

According to the Butler County Emergency Management Office, the county’s tornado sirens are scheduled to be tested today at noon.

Officials say that the tests will be conducted every month on the first Monday.
