POPLAR BLUFF PULLS OUT OVERTIME WIN TO CLAIM DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
The Poplar Bluff Mules are once again District Champions.
The boys basketball team claimed the Class 6, District 1 Championship Thursday night with a 49-42 overtime win over Jackson in Cedar Hill.
The Mules will take on Oakville in Poplar Bluff on Tuesday in the Class 6 State Sectional.
The New Madrid County Central Girls team won the Class 4, District 1 championship following a 70 to 35 win against Doniphan.
Tonight, Campbell will play in the Class 2 State Quarter-finals versus Valle Catholic in St. Genevieve.
More boys district champions in Southeast Missouri will also be decided tonight as New Madrid County Central takes on Dexter in the Class 4, District 1 final. You can listen to that game live on our sister station Hot 92.9. In the Class 5, District 1 final, Sikeston will face Notre Dame.
PIEDMONT MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN REYNOLDS COUNTY WRECK
Two people were seriously injured in an early Thursday morning wreck.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred shortly after 1 am Thursday on Highway D in Reynolds County when a vehicle driven by 20 year old Bradley Couthren, of Ellington, ran off the side of the road and overturned.
Two passengers in the vehicle, Kyle Allen, of Piedmont, and Angela Webber, of Ellington, suffered serious injuries in the wreck. Webber was flown to a Springfield hospital while Allen was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital.
Couthern was arrested around an hour after the wreck on felony charges of driving while intoxicated causing a serious physical injury, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving while revoked.
He was held at the Reynolds County Jail.
TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG BUST IN WAYNE COUNTY
A traffic stop turned into a drug bust recently in Wayne County.
According to Wayne County Sheriff Dean Finch, deputies conducted the stop on Business 67 in Greenville.
During the stop, the driver, identified as Linda Wood, was found to be in possession of 14 grams of methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia.
Finch says that Wood was arrested and that charges are pending.
THREE RIVERS COLLEGE GOING VIRTUAL FOR TRIVIA THURSDAYS
Three Rivers College is going virtual this year to raise money for the Black and Gold scholarship.
In the past, the college has hosted annual Trivia nights to raise money for the scholarship, but due to the pandemic, school officials are now doing Trivia Thursdays.
The event started yesterday, and officials say that a trivia question will be posted on the TRC Facebook page every Thursday for at least 10 weeks.
The question will close at noon the following Monday, and the College will randomly select a winner from the individuals who answered correctly. Winners will receive prizes courtesy of local businesses.
All proceeds from Trivia Thursdays goes to benefit the Black and Gold scholarship at Three Rivers, and assist students with great financial need.
POPLAR BLUFF CEMETERY CLEAN UP TO START NEXT WEEK
The dates have been announced for the annual City Cemetery clean up in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, the Cemetery Department will be cleaning both the City and Woodlawn portions beginning on March 10th.
Residents are asked to remove any flower arrangements, personal items, and decorations that you would like to keep before that date.
The cleanup is scheduled to be completed by April 1st.
TODAY IS THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR YOUTH GIRLS VOLLEYBALL IN POPLAR BLUFF
Today is the day for parents to get their daughters registered for girls volleyball in Poplar Bluff.
According to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, today is the deadline to register for volleyball for girls in 3rd through 6th grade. The registration fee is $20.
Parents can get their children registered at the Park office on North Second Street or online at PBParks.org.
