DRIVERS REMINDED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR BICYCLES
Warmer weather brings with it an increase of bicycles on Missouri’s roadways and state officials are asking motorists to keep an eye out for them.
Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Transportation shows that eight fatalities reported in 2020 involved a bicycle, with 369 injured.
Bicyclists should take precautions to remain safe while on the road. A bicyclist must be equipped with brakes that will enable its driver to stop the bicycle 25 feet from a speed of 10 mph on dry, level, clean pavement.
Experts also recommend bicyclists obey the law and keep safety in mind. Reviewing bicycle safety guiltiness and traffic laws are a great way to prepare for bicycling season. For more safety tips go online to www.mshp.org.
