SEAT ON THE POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL UP FOR ELECTION
A seat on the Poplar Bluff City Council, as well as other city posts throughout Butler County, are up for election today.
Shane Cornman and Robert Durbin are both running for the Ward 4 seat on the Poplar Bluff City Council.
Voters in Neelyville will also be selecting a mayor today. Kevin Bynum will be taking on Karen Proffer for the position.
For the Butler County Health Department Board of Trustees, the candidates for three positions are Dorothy Munch, Yvonne Pope, James Harlan, and Richard Montgomery.
In Fisk, voters will decide if the city of Fisk should impose a license tax of four percent of the gross receipts derived from the retail distribution, and sale of the utility services within the city, including but not limited to electrical services, natural or artificial gas, and telephone or telecommunication services, with said tax revenues to be placed in the general fund of the city in order to provide municipal services to the city and its citizens.
42ND ANNUAL OLD GREENVILLE BLACKPOWDER RENDEZVOUS TO BE HELD NEXT WEEKEND
The 42nd Annual Old Greenville Blackpowder Rendezvous has been scheduled for next weekend.
The event, presented by the Crowley’s Ridge Blackpowder Club and the US Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Wappapello, will be held from 9 am until dark on Saturday April 17th and 8 am to 3 pm on Sunday April 18th at the Greenville Campground.
There will be multiple events and entertainment options available and admission is free to the public.

ROADWORK SET FOR THIS WEEK IN BUTLER COUNTY
Route N in Butler County will be closed as the Missouri Department of Transportation crews will replace a culvert under the roadway.
According to MoDOT, this section of roadway to be closed is located between Missouri Route 51/53 and County Road 215.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 am to 3 pm daily through Friday.
VOTERS TO DECIDE ON SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY
Multiple area school boards will be holding elections today in Butler County.
For the Poplar Bluff R-1 School District, the candidates for two school board seats are Timothy Gaebler, Kenneth Davis, and Kevin Ellis.
In Neelyville, six people are running for two board seats, Travis Russom, Ronald Hover Jr., Ashley Taylor, Justin Beaird, Justin Pennington, and Robert Fisher.
In the East Carter School District, there are three candidates for the two board seats, Becky Fischer, Bryan House, and Jordan Collins.
BULKY ITEMS TO BE PICKED UP MONTHLY IN POPLAR BLUFF
With spring officially here and many people doing spring cleaning projects, Poplar Bluff officials are reminding city residents that the city offers bulky item pickups once a month.
Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the city collector’s office at city hall for $20. The tags entitles you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.
No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.
Officials say the Pick Up days will be on the second Tuesday of every month.
BRIDGE REPAIR CAUSES CLOSURE OF STODDARD COUNTY ROAD
A road in both Stoddard and New Madrid Counties has been closed for bridge repairs.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Route W is closed from Route Z in Stoddard County to Route E in New Madrid County so contractor crews can perform bridge repairs to Drainage Ditch #1.
Weather permitting, the project is anticipated to be finished by Wednesday, June 30th.
