POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

Authorities in Poplar Bluff have arrested an area man on child pornography charges.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, 40 year old Joshua Thomas was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon following an investigation by the SEMO Cyber Crimes Task Force.

Officials say that a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to the execution of a search warrant last week at an address on Thomas Street.

Numerous electronic devices were seized during the search. Child pornography was confirmed during an examination of the devices.

Thomas has been officially charged with six counts of class b felony possession of child pornography and one count of class d felony possession of child pornography.

He is being held in the Butler County Jail on a bond of $100,000 cash only. 

 

DANGEROUS HEAT EXPECTED FOR THIS WEEKEND

High temperatures and humidity means we could be looking at some dangerous heat conditions for this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Southeast Missouri is expected to get high temperatures in the low to mid 90’s with very high humidity on Saturday and Sunday.

Heat Index values are expected to top out from around 102 degrees to 107 degrees across Southeast Missouri this weekend.  

Residents are being reminded to take steps to counter the heat, including drinking plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty. If you have to be outside, wear loose fitting and light colored clothing.

 

TWO INJURED, ONE FACING CHARGES, FOLLOWING EARLY MORNING WRECK IN BUTLER COUNTY

Two people were injured in an early Thursday morning wreck in Butler County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 39 year old Matthew Cowin, of Ellsinore, was driving on Old US Highway 67, near Harviell, when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a sign and debris.

Cowin suffered moderate injuries while a passenger in the vehicle received serious injuries. They were both transported to area hospitals.

According to an arrest report from the Highway Patrol, Cowin was arrested later Thursday morning on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated – serious physical injury as well as a charge of careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident.  

 

MALDEN MAN CONVICTED FOR DISTRIBUTION OF METHAMPHETAMINE IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

A Malden man has been convicted on a methamphetamine charge.

Officials with the United States Attorney’s Office tell KWOC News that 36 year old Marcrease Farmer has been found guilty of distribution of methamphetamine following a two day jury trial.

Farmer reportedly sold methamphetamine to an undercover officer from the Missouri State Highway Patrol on three occasions in August of 2019.

Farmer’s sentencing has been scheduled for October 18th. Officials say he faces a minimum sentence of five years incarceration, up to a maximum sentence of forty years of imprisonment.

 

ALMOST MONTH LONG PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT UNDERWAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

An almost one month long pavement repair project is underway in Butler County.

According to officials, Route KK in Butler County is being reduced with a 9-foot width restriction between Route W and Route T so contractor crews can perform the repairs.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 am to 5:30 pm daily through Monday, August 16th.

 

SURFACE IMPROVEMENTS SCHEDULED FOR THE NEXT WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Contractor crews will be making driving surface improvements over the next week on Route E in Stoddard County.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the work zone is located between Route 25 and Route N.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 am to 7 pm daily through Saturday, July 31.
