RIVER RADIO BLOOD DRIVE SET FOR TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

The next River Radio Blood Drive will be this afternoon in Poplar Bluff.

The Blood Drive has been scheduled for noon to 6 pm today at the Greater Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce.

TWO INJURED IN STODDARD COUNTY WRECK

Two women were injured Wednesday night in a Stoddard County wreck.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when 67 year old Judy Kirby, of Dexter, drove into the path of another vehicle on Route Y near Bell City.

A passenger in Kirby’s vehicle suffered serious injuries while Kirby received moderate injuries. Both were transported to an area hospital. 

 

SPECIAL POPLAR BLUFF CITY COUNCIL MEETING SCHEDULED FOR TODAY TO DISCUSS GRANT

A special meeting of the Poplar Bluff city council has been scheduled for this afternoon.

The meeting is to discuss an application for a U.S. Department of Transportation grant in connection to the construction of Phase 3 of the US Highway 67/Future I-57 Project. The agenda says the council will also vote on approving the application.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1 pm today in the City Council Chambers on 5th Street. 

 

MOTORCYCLE DEATHS RISE IN FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2021

New data from the Missouri Department of Transportation shows a dramatic increase in motorcycle deaths in the state compared to last year.

According to MoDOT, following the August 2020 repeal of the all-rider helmet law, motorcyclist fatalities are up 33% and the number of unhelmeted riders killed in crashes increased from two in the first six months of 2020 to 31 so far in 2021.

In total, over 450 people have died in vehicle crashes this year in Missouri. Officials say the primary causes were excessive speeds, distraction, impairment, and choosing to not wear a seat belt or motorcycle helmet.

 

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CONSERVATION AGENT HONORED BY UNITED BOWHUNTERS

A Missouri Department of Conservation agent has been honored by United Bowhunters of Missouri.

Dunklin County Conservation Agent Corporal Eric Heuring was recently named Conservation Agent of the year.

Heuring has served 18 years in Dunklin County overseeing upland game, big game, and commercial fishing activities on the St. Francis River, which encompasses more than 70 miles of river.

He also oversees Ben Cash, Hornersville Swamp, Wilhelmina, and Little River Conservation Areas.

 

PBHS VIRTUAL SUMMER SCHOOL SESSION TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

Poplar Bluff High School is set to begin the virtual summer school session next week.

The session will begin on Monday and if you would like to enroll your child, call 712-2180.

Officials say that children who are already enrolled will receive an email from their summer school teacher with login instructions.
