MAJOR POPLAR BLUFF BRIDGE TO BE REPLACED NEXT YEAR

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation have announced that a major Poplar Bluff bridge is scheduled to be replaced starting next year.

According to MoDOT, plans have been released to replace the westbound Business 60 bridge that crosses over Black River and the Union Pacific railroad.

The project is expected to be let in February of next year, with construction beginning as early as spring 2022. Completion is anticipated by summer 2023.

During the construction, westbound traffic will be shifted to a head-to-head configuration on the eastbound bridge.  Riverview Drive and B Street will be closed during construction and depending on traffic patterns, officials say it may also be necessary to close 2nd Street.

CITY OF SIKESTON AWARDED TWO MILLION DOLLAR GRANT

A Southeast Missouri city will be getting around two million dollars to help support their local industrial park.

The United States Commerce Department s Economic Development Administration is awarding a $2 million grant to the city of Sikeston, Missouri, to support development of the South Industrial Park.

The EDA project, to be matched with $657,000 in other federal funds and $236,700 in local funds, is expected to create 100 jobs and generate nearly $30 million in private investment.

DATE ANNOUNCED FOR RESCHEDULED MULESKINNER GOLF TOURNAMENT

A date has been announced for the rescheduled Muleskinner Golf Tournament.

The event has now been scheduled for noon on Friday, October 15th at Westwood Hills Country Club. Lunch will be served at 11 am.

The 4 person scramble tournament had been set to be played on August 13th, but was postponed due to heavy rain.

All proceeds from the event go to benefit the Poplar Bluff Mules athletic programs. 

DRIVE THROUGH SCHOOL READINESS EVENT TO BE HELD IN CARTER COUNTY

A drive through school readiness event has been scheduled for this month in Carter County.

The event will be held at the Carter County Nutrition Center in Van Buren from 8 am to 10 am on August 21st.

TWO ARRESTED ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE IN NEW MADRID COUNTY

Authorities in New Madrid County have taken two Sikeston residents into custody on drug charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33 year old Travis Doles and 26 year old Kristin Hensley were both arrested Sunday night on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officials say that Doles is also facing an additional felony charge of driving while revoked. 

  

PAVEMENT REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN BUTLER AND STODDARD COUNTY

Route U in Butler and Stoddard Counties will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The section of Route U to be reduced is located from County Road 668 to County Road 675.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7:30 am to 3 pm today.
