CORNING MAN DIES FOLLOWING CRASH IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS

A Northeast Arkansas man has died following a wreck over the weekend.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police tell KWOC News that 47 year old Marty Thompson, of Corning, was driving Saturday afternoon on US Highway 67 in Randolph County.

Thompson’s vehicle crossed both lanes of traffic and struck an oncoming semi truck head on.

Officials say that Thompson was killed in the wreck. The driver of the semi truck was injured and transported to an area hospital. 

INCREASE IN COVID CASES CAUSES THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI PRESCHOOL

A Southeast Missouri preschool will be temporarily closed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Van Buren School District, there have been multiple positive cases over the weekend and the Carter County Health Center has recommended that the Early Learning Center be closed for two weeks.

Teachers spent last night attempting to contact parents, who are being advised to monitor their children for any symptoms.

The Carter County Health Center is providing free Covid-19 testing this morning from 8 am to 10:30 am. Parents can call the health center to arrange a test at 573-323-4413.

The Van Buren School District instituted a mask mandate for all staff and students late last week.

The School District says that the Early Learning Center is scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 13th. 

MISSOURI GOVERNOR ISSUES NEW STATE OF EMERGENCY REGARDING COVID 19

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has ended a state of emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic and replaced it with a narrower order that focuses on the state's health care system.

The governor says the new actions acknowledge the state's progress in fighting the pandemic but keeps in place rules that allows the healthcare system to more quickly respond to its needs.

The change comes as Kansas City area hospitals report their intensive care units are nearly full with COVID-19 patients.

 

ONE ARRESTED IN NEW MADRID COUNTY ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGE

Authorities in New Madrid County have arrested an area man on a child pornography charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Elijah Riley, of East Prairie, was taken into custody Friday afternoon on a felony charge of possession of child pornography.

Following the arrest, Riley was transported to the New Madrid County Jail on a 24 hour hold. 

 

NORTHBOUND INTERSTATE 55 RAMPS TO BE CLOSED TONIGHT AT EXIT 67

Contractor crews will be repairing the pavement at the Interstate 55 and U.S. Route 62 interchange in Miner tonight.

Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation tell KWOC News that as work is underway, the northbound I-55 on and off ramps will be closed overnight.

Weather permitting, the ramps will close at 7 pm tonight and will reopen at 6 am on Tuesday. A signed detour will be in place.

TWO RIPLEY COUNTY ROADS SET TO BE CLOSED TODAY

The Missouri Department of Transportation will be closing two Ripley County roads today for pavement repairs.

According to officials, both Route OO and Route UU in Ripley County will be closed from 8 am to 3:30 pm for the repair projects.

Route OO will be closed from Route FF to County Road 640, while Route UU will be closed in the area of County Road 320.
