ONE DEAD FOLLOWING SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN WAYNE COUNTY

A Patterson man is dead following a single vehicle wreck over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Grant Bell was driving on Highway 34, near Piedmont, when his vehicle ran off the side of the road and struck a tree.

Bell, who was reportedly not wearing a safety device, was ejected during the wreck and later pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Mike Allen. 

DEXTER MAN ARRESTED ON STATUTORY SODOMY WARRANT

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on a statutory sodomy warrant.

According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, 42 year old Michael Hamilton, of Dexter, was recently arrested on a Stoddard county warrant for three counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy and two counts of sexual misconduct involving a child under 15.

He was held in the Stoddard County Jail on a $35,000 cash only bond. 

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI FFA CHAPTER AWARDED FUNDS FOR SERVICE PROJECTS 

A Southeast Missouri FFA Chapter has been chosen to receive grant funds for their community service projects this year.

The Portageville School District FFA is one of six FFA chapters in Missouri chosen to receive $500 toward their projects, which may include upgrades or additions to existing facilities, grounds or buildings, such as fairgrounds, parks or community centers used by local organizations.

Eight Missouri 4-H clubs also received the grant.

The money is coming from the Department of Agriculture’s 2021 Building Our American Communities grant program.

JOPLIN MAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CHILD

A Joplin man is in custody for the alleged sexual assault of a Southeast Missouri child.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday deputies responded to a check on the welfare of a female juvenile who was reported missing out of East Prairie.

During the investigation, it was found that 19 year old Grant Henson had driven five hours to East Prairie. He picked up the girl and drove her back to his residence in Joplin where she was held against her will and sexually assaulted.

Henson was arrested and charges were filed by the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office for kidnapping 1st and sodomy 1st. No bond was set in the case. 

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR THE 2022 OPTIMIST SOCCER LEAGUE IN POPLAR BLUFF

Registration is now open for the 2022 Poplar Bluff Optimist Soccer League.

Registration for youth in kindergarten through sixth grades will be open through February 25th and the registration fee is $20.

Registration forms are available at the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Office located at 430 North Second Street and at pbosl.com.

PEMISCOT COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK

Route C in Pemiscot County will be closed this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway. 

The section of roadway being closed is located from County Road 418 to County Road 426.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, from 7 am to 3 pm each day.
