POPLAR BLUFF AND NEELYVILLE CHOSEN TO RECEIVE PART OF $410 MILLION DOLLARS IN COMMUNITY WATER INFRASTRUCTURE GRANTS

Numerous Southeast Missouri communities, including Poplar Bluff and Neelyville have been approved for water infrastructure grants.

Governor Mike Parson announced Friday that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources is awarding $410 million to help Missouri communities improve drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure as well as lead service line inventories.

The city of Poplar Bluff has been selected for a Stormwater Infrastructure grant and approved for $5 million dollars in funding.

Neelyville was approved for a $5 million dollar Drinking Water Infrastructure grant as well as an over $2 million dollar Wastewater Infrastructure grant and $200 thousand dollars for lead service line inventories.

HILLCREST ANIMAL HOSPITAL IS HOSTING A PET FOOD DRIVE THIS WEEK

A Poplar Bluff veterinarian is hosting a pet food drive this week.

Hillcrest Animal Hospital is accepting dog and cat food beginning today and continuing through Friday, except for on Thanksgiving.

For each item of food someone brings, you can enter to win an Arctic cooler filled with supplements and pet goodies. The winner will be announced on Friday.

All pet food that is brought in will be donated to the Bread Shed and distributed to those in need.

Hillcrest Animal Hospital is located at 700 South Shelby Road in Poplar Bluff. 

 

UNITED GOSPEL RESCUE MISSION TO HOST ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER

The United Gospel Rescue Mission is providing their annual Thanksgiving Meal this Thursday.  

The Thanksgiving meal will be held at around noon at the Rescue Mission in Poplar Bluff. If you can’t make it to the rescue mission you can also call ahead and have a meal delivered to you by contacting 573-785-4683.

Anyone who wants to help support the event can do so by purchasing a whole turkey for $50 dollars or a sliced turkey for $60.

The Rescue Mission is also in need of volunteers to help prepare meals from 9 am to noon starting on November 21st. On Thanksgiving, the rescue mission will also need assistance to prepare, serve, and deliver the meals. They are also accepting donations of desserts to be used in the meals.

FILING TO BEGIN IN DECEMBER FOR CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Filing will begin early next month for the upcoming Poplar Bluff City Council elections.

According to Poplar Bluff City Clerk Lori Phelps, the city will be holding elections in April for three seats on the City Council, one representative from Ward Five and two for the At Large seats. All three elections will be for three year terms.

Candidates can begin filing for the election on Tuesday, December 6th. The final day for candidate filing will be December 27th.

WHEATLEY HISTORIC PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION TO HOST CHRISTMAS GALA NEXT MONTH

The Wheatley Historic Preservation Association will be hosting their Christmas Gala Fundraiser next month.

The gala has been scheduled for Saturday, December 10th at the Wheatley School in Poplar Bluff. There will be a Social Hour beginning at 5 pm, followed by dinner at 5:30.

HAYTI FIRE DEPARTMENT RIB DINNER SCHEDULED FOR EARLY DECEMBER

A Southeast Missouri Fire Department has announced the date for their annual rib dinner.

The 43rd annual Hayti Fire Department Rib Dinner will be from 5 to 7 pm on December 3rd. Officials say that the event will be set up as a drive through line at the Fire Station.

Tickets are $40 for two plates. There will also be a cash giveaway and raffles for multiple items.
