POPLAR BLUFF HOSPITAL TO CONDUCT ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL

A Poplar Bluff hospital will be conducting an active shooter drill today.

According to officials with the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, the drill is scheduled to begin today at 2 pm.

Officials say that the drill is necessary to practice emergency and crisis response plans.

Area emergency responders will also be participating in the drill. 

 

NAMES RELEASED OF VICTIMS IN QULIN DOUBLE HOMICIDE

Authorities have released the names of the two victims in a double homicide that occurred over the weekend in Qulin.

Butler County Coroner Jim Akers tells KWOC news that the victims have been identified as 48 year old Wendy Rhodes, of Qulin and 36 year old Margaret Delcour, of Broseley

According to Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs, 30 year old Steven Scott, of O’Fallon, was arrested Sunday morning after both Rhodes and Delcour were found dead inside a Qulin residence with gunshot wounds.

According to the probable cause affidavit, a witness told investigators that they had witnessed Scott arguing with the two women before shooting them.

Scott was taken into custody later that day in Dexter.

Scott has been charged with two counts of 1st degree murder, four counts of armed criminal action, and a single count each of abuse or neglect of a child, endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon.

He is being held in the Butler County Justice Center on no bond.

 

NUMEROUS FLOATS LIGHT UP POPLAR BLUFF DURING THE RIVER RADIO LIGHTED CHRISTMAS PARADE

Numerous spectators and over a hundred vehicles lit up downtown Poplar Bluff this past weekend.

Everyone was out Friday night for the latest edition of the River Radio Lighted Christmas Parade.

The Boys and Girls Club of the Heartland were selected as the best float with their entry “Jingle into the Jungle.” 2nd place went to the Dance Studio and third place was Smith and Company.

NEW HUNTING REGULATIONS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR NEXT YEAR IN MISSOURI

The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced new regulations for turkey and deer hunting in the state as well as set the hunting dates for the 2023-24 seasons.

According to state officials, the regulation changes include a new firearms early antlerless portion, a new firearms CWD portion, and changes to firearms antlerless permit numbers in most counties.

The MDC will offer a new firearms early antlerless portion from October 6th through the 8th next year in the same 100 counties that are open for the firearms late antlerless portion from December 2nd through the 10th.

19TH ANNUAL SANTA LAND EVENT TO BE HELD TODAY IN POPLAR BLUFF

The 19th Annual Santa Land event has been scheduled for today in Poplar Bluff.

According to Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, the event will be held from 6 to 8 pm at the Black River Coliseum. Individuals with special needs may enter at 5 pm.

During the event, children will get to visit with Santa and participate in many fun holiday activities.

SHOULDER WORK TO BEGIN TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route 114 in Stoddard County will be reduced to one lane beginning today as construction crews perform shoulder work.  

According to MoDOT, the section of roadway to be reduced is located from Route 25 to McCormick St. in Dexter.

Weather permitting, work will take place today through Friday, December 16th, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
