TWO DEAD, ONE IN CUSTODY, FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN QULIN

A man is in custody following a fatal shooting in Butler County over the weekend.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that at approximately 1 am early Sunday morning, Butler County deputies responded to a report of two people being shot at a residence on the 100 block of New Hampshire Street in Qulin.

At the scene, deputies found two deceased females who appeared to be victims of gunshot wounds. The names of the victims are not being released at this time.

Investigators identified a suspect as 30 year old Stephen Scott, of O’Fallon. 

Scott surrendered himself to police in Dexter later Sunday morning.

Dobbs says that Scott is currently lodged in the Butler County Justice Center on two counts of 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.

The incident is still being investigated by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Butler County Coroner‘s Office.

NEW SUPERINTENDENT SELECTED FOR POPLAR BLUFF SCHOOL DISTRICT

The search for the next Poplar Bluff R-1 Superintendent has come to an end.

School officials tell KWOC News that the Poplar Bluff Board of Education has hired Dr. Aaron Cornman to succeed Dr. Scott Dill in leading the school district starting in July.

The Gideon native was selected out of four finalists during a special meeting held on Thursday in the Administrative Building.

Dr. Cornman has served in education for over 20 years at a variety of school districts, including Risco, Malden, and Advance. He first became a school superintendent in 2007. 

 

DEXTER MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

A Southeast Missouri man was flown to an area hospital last week after being involved in a single vehicle wreck.

According to the Highway Patrol, 32 year old Dalton O’Neal, of Dexter, was driving on Route F in Stoddard County when his vehicle ran off the side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

O’Neal suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Memphis hospital. 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES

Authorities in Butler County have arrested a Poplar Bluff man on multiple charges.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 33 year old Joshua Morgan was arrested on Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and misdemeanor charges of tampering with physical evidence and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

He also reportedly had a felony Butler County warrant for driving while intoxicated.

Following the arrest, Morgan was held at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. 

 

DRAINAGE REPAIRS TO CAUSE DELAYS TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY

Business 60 in Stoddard County will be reduced this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform drainage repairs.  

Officials say the section of roadway to be reduced is located from North 1 Mile Road to North Catalpa Street in Dexter.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily through Friday. 

ALMOST MONTH LONG REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN THE BOOTHEEL

Westbound Route 412 in Dunklin and Pemiscot counties will be reduced to one lane with a 14-foot width restriction over the next month as contractor crews perform pavement repairs.   

According to MoDOT, the work zone will be located from Interstate 55 to Route 25 in Kennett. 

Weather permitting, work will begin today and continue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Tuesday, January 3rd.
