RECORD HIGH SET IN POPLAR BLUFF ON TUESDAY

Poplar Bluff saw a new record high temperature set yesterday.

Temperatures reached 91 degrees in Poplar Bluff on Tuesday, overtaking the city’s previous record high for May 10th of 90 degrees, which was set back in 1986.

The mid May heatwave is expected to continue today.

According to the National Weather Service, heat indices across most of Southeast Missouri are expected to reach in the middle to upper nineties today, possibly reaching near 100 degrees. 

POCAHONTAS MAN KILLED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS WRECK

A Northeast Arkansas man has died, while five others were injured, in connection to a two vehicle wreck Tuesday morning.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 39 year old Jeffrey Watson, of Pocahontas, was driving on Highway 63 when he crossed into the turn lane and hit a vehicle head on.

Watson was killed in the wreck.

Five people in the second vehicle were injured and transported to an area hospital.

POPLAR BLUFF MAN TO APPEAR IN COURT THURSDAY ON CHILD MOLESTATION CHARGE

An area man is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow on child molestation charges.

According to Missouri Case Net, Rickey L. Pennington, of Poplar Bluff, has been charged with child molestation – 1st degree, statutory rape – 2nd degree, and statutory sodomy – 2nd degree, among other charges.  

A warrant was served to Pennington last week.

He is set to appear in a Butler County Courtroom Thursday morning.  

CARNIVAL TO BE IN POPLAR BLUFF FOR THE REST OF THIS WEEK

With the beautiful weather we are receiving for most of this week, it is a great time to take your family out to the carnival.

Fun Time Shows will be at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff beginning today and continuing through Saturday.

CREWS TO BE FLUSHING BRIDGES TODAY NEAR ELLSINORE

U.S. 60 in Carter County will be reduced to one lane today as crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation flush bridges.

The bridges involved in the project are located over Cane Creek near Ellsinore.

Work is scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

DONIPHAN ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR REPAIRS

A road in Doniphan will be closed for today for repairs.  

The City of Doniphan Transportation Department will be closing the block of Grand Avenue between Cherry Street and Plum Street this morning to conduct repairs.

Later today, crews will be closing Grand avenue at the Summit Street intersection.

Officials say that motorists will need to choose an alternative route during the times of construction.
