THREE CHILDREN INJURED, ONE SERIOUSLY, IN BUTLER COUNTY WRECK

Three children were among a total of five people injured in a wreck Saturday afternoon on US Highway 60 in Butler County.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that the wreck occurred six miles east of Ellsinore when a vehicle failed to yield and pulled into the path of another vehicle.

The driver and four passengers of the second vehicle were injured in the wreck. One of the passengers was a seven year old child, who received serious injuries and was flown to a St. Louis hospital.

The other four people who were injured were all transported by ambulance to a Poplar Bluff hospital. 

TWO BUTLER COUNTY RESIDENTS FACING ASSAULT AND ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD CHARGES

Two area residents are scheduled to appear in court next week on assault charges.

According to Missouri Case Net, Jesse Chaffin, of Qulin, and Miranda Gregory, of Poplar Bluff, will make their initial appearance in court on May 19th on charges of 2nd degree assault and 1st degree endangering the welfare of a child with serious physical injury.

The charges stem from an incident in March of this year.

Chaffin and Gregory’s bonds were each set at $50,000, cash or surety.  

MAN FACING 50 YEARS IN PRISON FOLLOWING BURGLARY CONVICTION

A Stoddard County man is facing a possible five decades in prison after being convicted on a burglary charge.

According to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver, Shawn Yount, of Advance, was found guilty last week on five counts of burglary and stealing.

Oliver says that since Yount is a prior and persistent felony offender, he faces up to 50 years in prison for the convictions.

Yount’s sentencing date has been scheduled for June 16th. 

BLOOMFIELD MAN FLOWN TO MEMPHIS HOSPITAL AFTER BEING INVOLVED IN A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK

A Bloomfield man was flown from the scene of a single vehicle wreck on Saturday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 72 year old Alan Hart was driving on Missouri Highway 25, near Dexter, when his vehicle ran off the side of the road, struck a culvert, became airborne, and then struck a ditch.

Hart suffered serious injuries in the wreck and was flown to a Memphis hospital. 

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR FOUR MONTHS STARTING IN JUNE

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that a Butler County road will be closed for approximately four months beginning in June.

Route W in Butler County will be closed as contractor crews replace a bridge over Black River. The bridge is located between County Road 525 and Ravenwood Lane near Poplar Bluff.

Weather permitting, work will begin at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1st, with completion anticipated by Friday, September 30th.

A signed detour will be in place and the Hilliard River Access will be temporarily closed to the public during construction.

MODOT TO CLOSE NEW MADRID COUNTY ROAD TODAY FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT

Route W in New Madrid County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.  

The section of roadway to be closed is located between Route E and County Road 623 near Kewanee. 

Work is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 4 pm.
