MAN TAKEN TO POPLAR BLUFF HOSPITAL WITH NON LIFE THREATENING INJURIES AFTER BEING SHOT IN RIPLEY COUNTY

A Butler County man suffered non-life threatening injuries following a shooting Tuesday in Ripley County.

Ripley County Sheriff Mike Barton tells KWOC News that the man was shot in the head at a location on Highway 160 near M Highway.

The man was transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital for treatment.

Barton says that the Ripley County woman who allegedly shot the man was questioned however no arrests have been made at this time.

The names of both the man and the woman were not released.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, the Doniphan Police Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. 

ONE DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED, IN CONNECTION TO CRASH NEAR KENNETT

One person is dead and another injured in connection to a three vehicle wreck Tuesday morning near Kennett.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tell KWOC News that 74 year old Roy Witfield, of Piggott, was driving the wrong way on US Highway 412 and struck a car head on.

Witfield’s vehicle then struck a freightliner.

The driver of the car, 60 year old Frank Morris, of Kennett, was transported to a Pemiscot County hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Witfield suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a Piggott area hospital.

STUDENTS FROM TWIN RIVERS HIGH SCHOOL TO PARTICIPATE IN MOCK DWI CRASH

Students from Twin Rivers High School will be participating in a mock DWI crash this week.

The students will be joining their peers from five other southeast Missouri schools during a youth traffic safety leadership training conference in Cape Girardeau starting on Thursday.

The conference is a part of a statewide program sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation that is committed to empowering youth to promote safe driving habits while preventing underage drinking, impaired driving and driver inattention.

After an initial training session, the attendees create and implement action plans for school and community activities in an effort to reduce unsafe driving habits and traffic deaths.

The mock DWI crash will be held on Friday at the Drury Plaza Hotel Conference Center in Cape Girardeau. 

BUTLER COUNTY MAN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY ON FELONY DRUG CHARGE

A Butler County man was taken into custody Monday night on a felony drug charge.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33 year old Ryan Capper, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Capper is also facing charges of unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and failure to register a motor vehicle.

Following the arrest, he was held at the Butler County Jail. 

DEXTER POLICE RELEASE RESULTS OF CLICK IT OR TICKET ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN

The Dexter Police Department has released the results of a seat belt enforcement campaign that started last month.

Dexter Police Chief Hank Trout says that the police department participated in Missouri's 2022 Click It or Ticket mobilization that was conducted from May 23rd to June 5th.

During the enforcement effort, officers issued a total of 37 traffic tickets and 25 warnings which included 24 seat belt violations.

INTERSTATE OFF RAMP TO BE CLOSED THROUGH JUNE 20TH

An Interstate off ramp has been closed in Pemiscot County for repairs.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Westbound Interstate 155 Off Ramp to Southbound I-55 in Pemiscot County will be closed as contractor crews perform concrete work and undersealing.

This closure is located at Exit 1A near Hayti.

Weather permitting, the off ramp will be closed through Monday, June 20th.
