MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN CONNECTION TO DEATH AT DUNKLIN COUNTY NURSING HOME

A man is in custody in connection to an alleged homicide at a Southeast Missouri nursing home.

Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain tells KWOC News that 57 year old Shedrick White has been charged with murder in the first degree for the death of Marvin Hale.

White is accused of strangling Hale at the Senath South Health Care Center nursing home.

An investigation into the death is being conducted by the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Senath Police Department.

White is being held without bond in the Dunklin County Jail. 

NEW POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT COULD OPEN THIS FALL

The New Poplar Bluff Police Department headquarters is nearing completion.

Deputy Chief Mike McClain gave the Poplar Bluff City Council an update on the project at the city council meeting this week.

“We are 95 percent complete, officially as of today. Tentatively, we are trying to schedule our open house for August 13th.  We will mobilize and start moving by division after that date.  I really hope that by mid-September we are fully operational.“

The new Police Department Headquarters is located on north Shelby Road. 

EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR TODAY

Temperatures are expected to reach near triple digits today in Southeast Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service, an excessive heat warning remains in effect for all of Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas through tonight.

Dangerously hot conditions with peak afternoon heat index values of close to 110 degrees are possible today.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun if possible, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

MAN ARRESTED IN BUTLER COUNTY ON GUN AND DRUG CHARGES

Authorities in Butler County have arrested an area man on gun and drug charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 55 year old Robert Ellison, of Ellsinore, was taken into custody Tuesday night on felony charges of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Ellison is also facing a charge of driving while revoked.

Following the arrest, he was transported to the Butler County Jail. 

BULKY ITEM PICK UP TO BE CONDUCTED NEXT WEEK IN POPLAR BLUFF

Poplar Bluff officials are reminding city residents that the city offers bulky item pickups once a month.

Residents can purchase bulk item tags from the city collector’s office at city hall for $20. The tags entitle you to the removal of four bulk items, such as couches or refrigerators. Tires may be collected for a charge of $3 per tire with a limit of four tires.

No construction materials or small items will be picked up and the program is for residential areas only.

Friday is the final day this month to purchase item tags to be included in next week’s pick up, which will be conducted on July 12th.

PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN CARTER COUNTY

Route U in Carter County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction beginning today as contractor crews perform asphalt overlay and add shoulders to the roadway. 

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the section Route U to be reduced is located from Route 60 to Route 21.

Weather permitting, work will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily with completion anticipated by Thursday, July 28th.
