VOTING UNDERWAY IN MISSOURI’S PRIMARY ELECTION

Polls have opened for the Missouri Primary Election. 

Voters will be deciding on nominations and propositions on both the state and local level today.

Some of the big races on the ballot include the GOP nominations for one of Missouri’s United States Senators, for Butler County Clerk, and for Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney.

You can find your voting location online at sos.mo.gov/elections. Polls will close at 7 pm, and anyone in line to vote at that time will still get to cast a ballot.

DEXTER POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL WRECK

Police in Dexter are investigating a fatal two vehicle crash.

Captain Cory Mills with the Dexter Police Department tells KWOC News that the wreck occurred Monday morning at the intersection of Business US Highway 60 and Catalpa.

Two people who were in one of the vehicles have died, 87 year old Patsy Tally and 59 year old Stephen Belvin, both of Dexter.

No one in the second vehicle was injured.

The Dexter Police Department was assisted by the Dexter Fire Department and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol at the scene.

Mills says that the crash is under investigation and additional details will be released at a later time. 

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI THROUGH WEDNESDAY

Much of Southeast Missouri will be under a heat advisory through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, heat index values of over 100 degrees are possible today and tomorrow.

Area residents are reminded to take extra precautions if you have to work or spend time outside.

Remember to take frequent breaks and check on the elderly and young. Also never leave a child or pet in a vehicle unattended. 

POPLAR BLUFF MAN ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGE AND FOR ALLEGEDLY RESISTING ARREST

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area man on multiple charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 25 year old Jacob Jackson, of Poplar Bluff, was arrested Sunday evening on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

Jackson is also facing charges of resisting arrest for a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also reportedly had a felony warrant for a probation violation out of Butler County.

Following the arrest, Jackson was held at the Stoddard County Jail. 

ROAD WORK SCHEDULED FOR TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements today on Route VV in Butler County. 

According to officials, the work zone is located between County Road 628 and Route B.

Weather permitting, work will take place through 4:00 p.m. this afternoon. During the project, the road will be open to local traffic only.  

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR PART OF THIS WEEK

Missouri Route 84 in Pemiscot County will be closed starting today as contractor crews perform railroad repairs. 

The closure will be located from North Chestnut Street to First Street in Hayti.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Thursday. Officials say that a signed detour will be in place.
