SEARCH UNDERWAY FOR ESCAPED INMATE IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI
Multiple agencies in Southeast Missouri are searching for an escaped inmate.
According to the Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, 29 year old Dewayne Woods Jr., escaped the custody of a corrections officer at Pemiscot Memorial Hospital at approximately 2 am Sunday morning.
Hayti Police officers, Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Dunklin County Deputies, searched the immediate area, but were unable to locate the subject.
Woods was being held in custody at the Dunklin County Justice Center on charges of failure to appear, burglary, stealing, assault, robbery, and armed criminal action.
Anyone who has information on Woods whereabouts is asked to contact the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office at 573-888-2409.
PORTAGEVILLE RESIDENTS TO VOTE ON SEVEN MILLION DOLLAR BOND ISSUE
Residents in a Southeast Missouri community will be deciding on a multi-million dollar bond issue during tomorrow’s primary election.
Citizens in Portageville will be voting on whether the city should issue a combined waterworks and sewerage system revenue bond in the amount of up to seven million dollars.
There are also multiple competitive races in Carter County that will be decided tomorrow.
Ron Keeney and Joe L. Crites are facing off for the GOP nomination for presiding commissioner.
The race for the Republican nomination for Clerk of the Circuit Court will see Mary M. Godsy take on Joanna Giles. The Clerk of the County Commission Republican nomination is between Mikki Stinchcomb and Debi Reynolds.

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION SET FOR AUGUST 17TH AT POPLAR BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL
Freshman orientation is set to be held next month at Poplar Bluff High School.
Officials say that orientation will begin at 8 am on Wednesday, August 17th, and students can begin arriving at 7:30 to check in outside of the Poplar Bluff High School main entrance.
Students will get to learn more about life at the High School, get their class schedule, learn the layout of the campus, and meet their advisory class.
This is a student only event and students should bring a backpack.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI CITY AWARDED OVER $60,000 TO EVALUATE WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEM
A southeast Missouri city has been awarded over $60,000 for wastewater system improvements.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $62,500 Clean Water Engineering Report Grant to the city of Hayti Heights to help cover engineering costs for evaluating water and wastewater system improvements.
The city will use the grant to identify wastewater system improvements needed to continue reliable service to the area and reduce stormwater infiltration into sewer collection pipes.
The facility’s plan should be complete in December 2023.
ROAD PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY ON SHELBY ROAD IN POPLAR BLUFF
The Poplar Bluff Street Department will be working on Shelby Road beginning today.
Officials say that the inside Northbound lane of Shelby Road will be closed while crews do repairs to the concrete. Once complete, the crews will then move to the outside northbound lane.
The work zone will be located over Pike Creek, north of Route PP.
There will be a speed limit reduction at the work zone and motorists are being asked to use caution while driving in the work area.
ROAD IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE IN WAYNE COUNTY
Missouri Department of Transportation crews will be making driving surface improvements today on Route FF in Wayne County.
Officials say the work zone is located between Route 67 and County Road 380 near Greenville.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
