PURSUIT ENDS IN BUTLER COUNTY CORNFIELD

A pursuit early Thursday morning in Butler County came to an end in an area cornfield.

Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs tells KWOC News that he and his deputies were conducting patrols in southern Butler County early Thursday morning due to a rash of recent copper thefts.

Shortly after 2 am, a pickup truck attempted to flee from a traffic stop on Highway 53 and a lengthy pursuit ensued.

The pursuit came to an end after the suspect drove into a cornfield and then attempted to flee on foot. Dobbs says he was then taken into custody without incident.

A search of the vehicle resulted in officials finding a large quantity of copper wire that is believed to have been stolen from farms in the area.

Dobbs says that suspect has been identified as 44 year old Michael Hon, of Poplar Bluff.

Hon is currently being held on an outstanding felony warrant. Dobbs added that charges are being requested for felony resisting arrest by fleeing, property damage, and stealing.
