LIGHT ICING POSSIBLE THIS WEEK
Southeast Missouri could see some light icing this week which might result in dangerous traveling conditions.
According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service, light wintry weather will produce potential travel impacts this week.
Portions of Southeast Missouri already experienced freezing drizzle last night into this morning.
Weather officials say that light icing is most likely tonight into tomorrow morning. Additional chances exist Tuesday and Wednesday nights as well.
The icing could result in difficult travel conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses, and sidewalks.
ARREST MADE IN SIKESTON DOUBLE HOMICIDE
An arrest has been made in a southeast Missouri double homicide investigation.
According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, 33 year old Cornelius David, of Georgia, was recently arrested by law enforcement officials in Atlanta.
David was identified as a suspect in the deaths of 33 year old Kiara Haynes and 27 year old Breana Conner earlier this month in Sikeston.
David has been charged with two counts of 1st degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and a single charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held on no bond.
Officials say that the case remains under investigation and anyone who has information about the murders is asked to contact the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
WOMAN FALLS OUT OF BED OF TRUCK NEAR BERNIE
A Southeast Missouri woman was flown to an area hospital Friday afternoon after she fell out of a truck.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling on Highway 25, near Bernie, when 46 year old Angela Farris fell out of the bed of the truck.
Farris suffered serious injuries in the incident and was transported by air to a St. Louis hospital.
FELON FROM KENNETT TO BE SENTENCED IN MAY ON WEAPON CHARGE
A Kennett man will be sentenced in May following his confession to a weapons charge.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, 24 year old Lamad Cross pleaded guilty last week in U.S. District Court to one felony charge of unlawful transfer of a machine gun.
Last year, Cross sold multiple devices to confidential informants that would convert an AR-15 style rifle into an automatic weapon.
The devices, even if not installed in a firearm, are considered machine guns under federal law. Cross is a convicted felon and is barred from purchasing or possessing firearms.
The charge carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. Cross is scheduled to be sentenced on May 4th.
