LAST SECOND THREE POINT SHOT HELPS GREENVILLE TO OFC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2023 Ozark Foothills Conference Championship Friday was a night for the bears.
The Greenville Bears took home the boys Varsity championship Friday night at the Libla Family Sports Complex in Poplar Bluff thanks to an Easton Evans game tying three point basket with two seconds remaining in regulation to send the championship game to overtime.
The Bears overwhelmed Doniphan in the extra period to claim the championship with a final score of 76-71.
Twin Rivers denied Greenville a chance at a double championship earlier in the night, defeating the Bears 51-39 in the boys Junior Varsity Final.
In the girls final, Doniphan cruised to a 59-29 win over Neelyville.
PRELIMINARY AUTOPSY RESULTS RELEASED IN CHILD DEATH INVESTIGATION
Updating a story we brought to you last week, an autopsy has been conducted on a child who recently died.
Carter County Sheriff Dustin Boyer tells KWOC News that a report was made by medical personnel of possible child neglect on February 3rd. An investigation was launched with the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Investigation unit and during the investigation, it was reported that the child had passed away.
KWOC News spoke with Carter County Coroner Joe Ben Chapman who says that preliminary results of the autopsy suggest that the death of the child is not consistent with a “Natural Death” designation.
Tatiana Gardner, of Ellsinore, is in custody on a charge of abuse or neglect of a child. No bond has been set.
The investigation into the death is ongoing.
HOMELESS MAN ARRESTED IN NORTHEAST ARKANSAS FOR ALLEGED RAPE OF A CHILD
Authorities in Northeast Arkansas have arrested a homeless man for the alleged rape of a child.
Officials with the Paragould Police Department tell KWOC News that an arrest affidavit was issued Friday for Jacob Howard.
According to the affidavit, on February 2nd Paragould officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Baldwin Street in reference to rape allegations involving a victim under the age of 10.
A forensic interview was conducted with the victim who disclosed sexual acts that constitute rape.
The victim named Howard as the person who performed the acts.
Howard was taken into custody and is being held in the Greene County Jail. His bond has been set at $50,000, cash only.
CITY OF DONIPHAN TO HOST PUBLIC MEETING TONIGHT
The City of Doniphan will be holding a public meeting tonight to discuss the voluntary residential flood buyout project.
According to officials, the meeting will be held at 6 pm at the Doniphan City Hall.
The city’s ongoing residential voluntary buyout project includes assistance like relocation expenses and down payment assistance for those who qualify.
The city is interested in obtaining citizen input on the existing buyout zone and discussing eligibility, available assistance, the application process, and other needs related to the April and May 2017 flooding events within the city.
At least 70% of the funds will be used to benefit low to moderate income persons. Due to the nature of a buyout, displacement of persons will be proposed.

RAILROAD MAINTENANCE CONTINUES TODAY IN STODDARD COUNTY
Route AH in Stoddard County will be closed today as crews perform railroad maintenance on the tracks.
The section of the roadway to be closed is located near Grayridge, from U.S. 60 to Route 114.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
INTERSTATE OFF RAMP IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TO BE CLOSED BEGINNING TODAY
The Southbound I-155 off ramp at Exit 17A in Pemiscot County has been closed as contractor crews perform concrete work.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, work was scheduled to begin at 6 am this morning. Completion of the project is anticipated by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 6th.
The work zone will be in place 24 hours a day until work is completed.
