STORM SYSTEM TO BRING CHANCES OF HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING LATER THIS WEEK

A storm system could bring heavy rain to Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas later this week.

According to the National Weather Service, there is the potential for heavy rainfall and flooding from late Thursday afternoon through Friday evening.

Widespread three to five inch rainfall totals are possible, with locally higher amounts in areas that are affected by thunderstorms.

Area residents are being encouraged to take steps to know what you need to do if flooding impacts your location, especially if you live or travel in a flood prone area.

MISSOURI HUNTERS CAN APPLY FOR ELK AND BEAR PERMITS BEGINNING IN MAY

Missouri hunters will be able to apply for bull elk and bear permits in May.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will offer five permits to hunt bull elk in Missouri this fall with at least one permit designated for qualifying landowners that own property in Carter, Reynolds, or Shannon counties and the remaining permits being for the general public.

MDC has designated the elk archery portion to run from October 21st through October 29th and the elk firearms portion to run from December 9th through December 17th.

The MDC will also offer 400 permits for the taking of a maximum of 40 black bears during the 2023 Missouri black-bear hunting season this fall, from October 16th through October 25th.

Only Missouri residents who will be at least 11 years old by the first day of the hunt for which they are applying are eligible to apply. The application period will be from May 1st to May 31st and all permits will be assigned through a random drawing.

There are multiple ways to apply for each permit including by calling 1-800-392-4115 or by going online to mdc.mo.gov/buypermits.

POPLAR BLUFF NATIVE WINS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN TRAP SHOOTING

A Poplar Bluff native has been crowned a national champion.

Austin Stoner won the National Collegiate Shooting Sports Athletic Association Division 4 Trap Doubles Championship last week at the NCSSAA National Championship in Las Vegas.

Stoner is a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and is currently a freshman at Hannibal-LaGrange University.

THREE RIVERS COLLEGE TO HOST AREA UNIVERSITIES FOR COLLEGE TRANSFER FAIR

Three Rivers College will be hosting numerous area universities so students will have the opportunity to learn about their options following their time at TRC.

The TRC College Transfer Fair has been scheduled for 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, March 28th at the Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center in Poplar Bluff.

Students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from four-year colleges to learn about their programs, transfer and admissions requirements, scholarships, financial aid and more.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR CULVERT REPLACEMENT

A Butler County road will be closed today so crews can replace a culvert under the roadway.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, North Outer Road 60 in Butler County will be closed between County Road 523 and the US 67 Crossover north of Poplar Bluff.

Weather permitting, work is scheduled for 7 am to 4:30 pm today.

BRIDGE REPAIRS TO FORCE THE REDUCTION OF MAJOR DUNKLIN COUNTY ROAD

Route 53 in Dunklin County will be reduced today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge repairs.

The section of Route 53 being reduced is located from County Road 332 to County Road 322 near Holcomb.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
