POPLAR BLUFF’S DARIUS GRAHAM TAKES STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND SETS NEW CLASS 5 RECORD FOR HIGH JUMP
The MSHSAA Class 5 state track meet turned into a record breaking day for one Poplar Bluff Student.
The Mules Darius Graham won the state championship in the High Jump, setting a new class 5 record of 2.09 meters.
Graham also earned all-state designation, as did Poplar Bluff’s Isaiah Nevel, A’tari Amos, and Kennedy Zgaynor.
ONE DEAD FOLLOWING OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING
One person is dead following an officer involved shooting in the Missouri Bootheel.
Kennett Police Chief Kenny Wilson tells KWOC News that two subjects fled from a Kennett Police officer shortly after 10:30 pm Sunday night.
Wilson says that one subject was shot by a Kennett officer following a physical altercation.
The subject, identified as 46 year old James Matthew Hooten, did not survive his injuries.
Wilson says that no further details are being released at this time and an investigation is being conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
DONIPHAN MAN DIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A VEHICLE
A Doniphan man has died after getting hit by a vehicle.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 56 year old Danny Caudill was struck by a vehicle on U Highway, three miles south of Doniphan.
Officials say that the incident occurred Friday night at around 8:30 pm.
Caudill was pronounced dead at the scene by Ripley County Coroner Mike Jackson.
MAN FACING POSSIBLE LIFE SENTENCE FOR FATAL SHOOTING
Officials say that a murder trial that was originally scheduled to begin today will not be going forward.
According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain, 38 year old Steven Kirkwood, of Malden, has pleaded guilty to a charge of murder in the second degree.
The charge stems from the August 2020 shooting of Ryan Lehnig at a party in Malden.
Jain says that Kirkwood faces up to life in prison at his sentencing on July 12th.
WARRANT SERVED FOR DEXTER MAN ON RAPE AND SODOMY CHARGES
A Dexter man will appear in court next month on rape and sodomy charges.
According to the Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, a warrant was served last week for 18 year old Peyton Jarrell for two counts of rape or attempted rape - 1st degree, three counts of sodomy or attempted sodomy - 1st degree, four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, and two counts of possession of child pornography.
His bond was set at $25,000 cash only.
According to Missouri Case Net, Jarrell is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, June 15th.
PAVEMENT REPAIR PROJECT TO BEGIN TODAY IN BUTLER COUNTY
Route 158 in Butler County will be reduced to one lane this week as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.
The section of roadway being reduced is located from County Road 343 to Route 142 near Poplar Bluff.
Weather permitting, work will take place today through Thursday, June 1st, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
