DONIPHAN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE SELECTED IN THE MLB DRAFT

A Doniphan High School graduate has been selected in the 2023 Major League Baseball Draft.

Missouri State University’s Jake Eddington was selected in the 7th Round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

During his time with the Doniphan Dons, he was a two time all state selection and was Missouri’s top ranked player in the class of 2020.

Following high school, he played his first two college seasons with Alabama before transferring to Missouri State.

In his lone season for the Bears, Eddington made 14 starts, going 4-2 with a 4.20 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 55.2 innings.

REGION UNDER A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER FOR TONIGHT

Weather officials say that the region is under a slight risk of severe weather beginning tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected to impact the region from late tonight through the weekend.

Severe thunderstorms are possible and repeated rounds of storms may cause some flash flooding concerns.

The area is expected to remain dry until after sunset this evening.

In addition to chances of thunderstorms, heat and humidity numbers will increase over the next few days, with heat index readings possibly getting up to around 106 degrees in Poplar Bluff on Thursday.

ROYAL REGISTRATION DATE SET FOR TWIN RIVERS SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Twin Rivers School District has announced that it will be holding a two day registration event for students next month.

Royal Registration is scheduled for 1 to 7 pm on Tuesday, August 8th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with A-K and Thursday, August 10th for students whose parent or guardian’s last name begins with L-Z. Both will be held at Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.

There will be booths set up to distribute student class schedules and allow students to have their school picture taken.

POPLAR BLUFF STREET DEPARTMENT TO OVERLAY MAIN STREET NEXT WEEK

Poplar Bluff street crews will be doing work on Main Street next week.

According to the Poplar Bluff Street Department, crews will be overlaying Main Street from Harper up to Pershing, which will force Main Street to be closed on July 18th and 19th during the day.

Only residents that live on Main Street in the affected area will be permitted within the work zone.

Traffic that is eastbound on Harper Street will be detoured onto Mill Street.

The project had originally been planned for this week, however it was delayed due to unforeseen issues at the asphalt plant.

GIDEON WOMAN ARRESTED IN STODDARD COUNTY FOR DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

Authorities in Stoddard County have arrested an area woman on multiple drug related charges.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 43 year old Lorrie Kern was taken into custody Monday evening on charges of delivery of a controlled substance - methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kern is also facing charges of failure to register a motor vehicle, displaying the plates of another, and no seatbelt.

Following the arrest, she was held in the Stoddard County Jail.

ROAD TO BE CLOSED THIS WEEK IN STODDARD COUNTY

Route HH in Stoddard County will be closed both today and tomorrow as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The closure is located from Route 153 to Route CC near Baker.

Weather permitting, work will take place each day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
