37TH ANNUAL POPLAR BLUFF SHOWDOWN TIPS OFF TODAY
The 37th Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown will tip off this afternoon at Poplar Bluff High School.
The first round will see McCracken County take on Izard County at 4 pm, followed by Vashon vs. Trinity Christian at 5:30 pm, Poplar Bluff against Urbana at 7 pm, and the day will finish with Maumelle vs. Staley at 8:30 pm.
Poplar Bluff Athletics Director Kent Keith tells KWOC News that tickets are on sale for eight dollars per day.
Every game of the 37th Annual Poplar Bluff Showdown will be broadcast live on the KWOC Facebook Page and River Radio PB Youtube page.
RIVER RADIO BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW
Reservations are now being accepted for the next River Radio Blood Drive in Poplar Bluff.
The Blood Drive has been scheduled for noon to 5 pm on Friday at Larry Hillis Dodge on North Westwood Boulevard.
Anyone wanting to donate can call 1-800 Red Cross or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter the code RiverRadio to schedule an appointment.
FILING DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Filing will come to an end soon for the upcoming Poplar Bluff City Council elections.
The city will be holding elections in April for two seats on the City Council, one representative each from Wards One and Three. Both elections will be for three year terms.
The final day for candidate filing will be December 31st.

Filing is also underway for multiple positions on the Poplar Bluff R-1 Board of Education. According to school officials, there are two positions available for three year terms that will be voted on during the election on April 8th, 2025.
Candidates can file in person with the Secretary of the Board of Education at the School Administration Office through December 31st.
DEADLINE APPROACHING TO PAY YOUR PROPERTY TAX
The new year is approaching fast, which means that it is time to pay your personal property tax.
Butler County Collector Emily Parks tells KWOC News that the Collector’s office will be open on weekdays from 8 am to 4 pm through the end of the year. After hours, residents can also pay at the drop box on the east side of the Butler County Courthouse.
You can also pay your property tax online at ButlerCountyMO.com.
Parks says that interest and penalties are added to the amount due at the beginning of each month for anyone who misses the deadline.
If you are paying by mail, it must be postmarked by December 31 to avoid penalties. Parks says that the best way to ensure that is the case is to take your mail inside the post office to drop it off.
US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ACCEPTING CHRISTMAS TREES FOR RECYCLING
If you are still wondering what to do with your Christmas tree, the US Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake would like to hear from you.
The Corps of Engineers is accepting Christmas trees through January 17th at the Redman Creek boat ramp. The drop-off location is marked with a sign.
Officials say that once the trees are deposited at the collection site, they become property of the Corps of Engineers for use in establishing fish shelters and small game habitats.

POPLAR BLUFF PARKS AND RECREATION TO RING IN NEW YEAR WITH 5K RUN
Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation will be celebrating the beginning of 2025 next week with a 5k run.
The Resolution Rush 5k will begin at 10 am on January 4th at McLane Park. Check-in will start at 9:30 am and the cost is $10.
