MISSOURI STATE SENATOR JASON BEAN NAMED POPLAR BLUFF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
A Missouri State Senator is being recognized for his efforts in helping the lives of the citizens of Poplar Bluff.
Senator Jason Bean was announced as the 2025 Citizen of the Year during the 87th Annual Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce Banquet Saturday night at the Black River Coliseum.
Bean is a fifth generation Missourian and he currently lives on the same farm where he grew up and learned how to farm in Southeast Missouri.
Bean has served as the Senator for Missouri State Senate District #25, which covers eight counties including Butler, Carter, and Stoddard, since January 2021.
During his work in the Missouri State Senate, Bean has worked to shepherd the I-57 project, including securing 150 million dollars in funding.
Bean also has helped people outside of his role as a Senator, including administering CPR to a person who had been involved in an accident last fall, as well as working to help clean up after major disasters.
BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR OVER THREE MONTHS BEGINNING TODAY
A portion of Route B in Butler County will be closed beginning today so contractor crews can replace the bridge over Blue Spring Slough.
The closure will be located between Route Z and County Road 557 near Poplar Bluff.
Weather permitting, work on the project will continue through Wednesday, May 7. The road will remain closed as work is underway, and motorists should seek alternate routes.
SOUTHEAST MISSOURI TOWN AWARDED ALMOST HALF A MILLION DOLLAR GRANT
A southeast Missouri town has been awarded almost half a million dollars for street repairs and paving.
The City of Hornersville has received $496,500 from the Missouri Department of Economic Development Community Development Block Grant.
City officials say they intend to start later this summer, but residents will have newly repaired and paved streets by the end of the year.
The city will be contributing $100,000 cash toward the implementation of this project.
REGISTRATION OPENS FOR THE 2025 OPTIMIST SOCCER LEAGUE IN POPLAR BLUFF
Registration is now open for the 2025 Poplar Bluff Optimist Soccer League.
Registration for youth in kindergarten through sixth grades will be open through February 21st and the registration fee is $25.

TICKETS TO BE ISSUED IN THE NEAR FUTURE FOR RENTAL PROPERTIES IN KENNETT THAT ARE NOT REGISTERED
Kennett city officials are reminding area landlords that their rental properties need to be registered.
Kennettt Fire Chief Lance Davis tells KWOC News that landlords in Kennett are required to register all rental properties and obtain a business license.
Davis added that in the near future, the city will begin sending out notices of violation and if properties are not registered as required, tickets will be issued.
Landlords can register their properties at City Hall on Cedar Street.
CULVERT REPLACEMENT TO CAUSE CLOSURE OF BUTLER COUNTY ROAD
Route 142 in Butler County will be closed today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a culvert under the roadway.
The section of roadway being closed is located from Route EE to County Road 265 near Neelyville.
Weather permitting, work will take place today from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
