SNOW LIKELY TO START LATE TONIGHT, REGION COULD SEE UP TO FIVE INCHES

An early January snowfall is expected to blanket the region late tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, accumulating snowfall is likely across the entire region with impacts to travel expected. Snowfall totals could range from one to five inches, with higher totals expected in our southern regions.

The snow is forecast to start sometime between midnight and 6 am tomorrow morning. A winter storm warning will be in effect for most of the region beginning at midnight tonight.

WOMAN IN CUSTODY ON ONE MILLION DOLLAR BOND AFTER INFANT TESTS POSITIVE FOR METH

A woman is in custody after an infant tested positive for methamphetamine.

According to a warrant affidavit, 30 year old Amber Ragland, of Paragould, was arrested this week in connection to an ongoing department of Human Services case involving an infant that had tested positive for methamphetamine.

Medical records were obtained showing that the infant victim, who resides with Ragland, had tested positive for methamphetamine both in a urine screen and a hair follicle test. The affidavit says that the hair follicle test is consistent with sustained exposure environmentally over a period of months.

A separate party corroborated methamphetamine usage in the residence.

Ragland has been charged with felony introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person and endangering the welfare of a minor.

She is being held in the Greene County Detention Center on a one million dollar bond.

BUTLER COUNTY ROAD TO BE CLOSED FOR OVER THREE MONTHS BEGINNING LATER THIS MONTH

Route B in Butler County will be closed beginning later this month so contractor crews can replace the bridge over Blue Spring Slough.

The closure will be located between Route Z and County Road 557 near Poplar Bluff.

Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, Jan. 27 with completion anticipated by Wednesday, May 7. The road will remain closed as work is underway, and motorists should seek alternate routes.

DEADLINE APPROACHING TO REGISTER FOR SPRING CLASSES AT THREE RIVERS COLLEGE

The deadline is approaching to get registered for Spring semester classes at Three Rivers College.

Registration is open for the Spring semester through Friday, January 10th. The first day for classes will be next Monday, January 13th.

MANY GOVERNMENTAL OFFICES TO BE CLOSED TODAY FOR NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING

Many governmental offices will be closed today in observance of the National Day of Mourning for former president Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29th at the age of 100.

President Joe Biden has appointed today as a National Day of Mourning to pay homage to the memory of President Carter, who redefined life after the White House as a global humanitarian.

In observance of today, most federal departments and agencies will be closed as will the US Postal Service. USPS officials say that while regular mail service is suspended, there will still be limited package delivery service.

The city of Poplar Bluff has also announced that city offices will be closed today, however Municipal Court will be in session.

BRIDGE MAINTENANCE PROJECT SET FOR TODAY ON INTERSTATE 55

Interstate 55 in New Madrid County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform bridge maintenance.

The bridge is located between mile markers 60 and 58.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.
